It amazes me how different the rules are from county to county in order to qualify for these programs. And Senior Citizens are even treated differently for qualifying i.e., utilities must be turned on, duh. Why should this reduce the benefits of a senior citizen?

This is what it's all about. Helping hands and not hand-outs. Until folks can get back to work or recover from illness and get back to work...Helping Hands. This is what America has been doing for many years - tax dollars at work for temporary needs; not a pemanent helping hand because then it becomes "Hand-Outs."

I thought Obama was going to help people to jobs, not food stamps. Obummer!

Well ya let the immigrants get food stamps so now let the ppl of this country born and raised get what they deserve.

A food stamp survey done in Billings, MT, showed 18 of 96 food stamp applicants said auto insurance, traffic fines, and DUI costs were a reason for needing food stamps.(http://www.foodstampstudy.com ), why not see how many are on food stamps in Ohio and change the motor vehicle laws and get these people off food stamps since the above motor vehicle costs took away the money they were going to use for food. It doesn;t make much sense to have an indigent pay 200$ for auto insurance and then have him go on food stamps to get something to eat. There has never been a decent food stamp survey done to find out how many are on food stamps due to DUI costs, traffic fines, or mandatory auto insurance costs, except the poorly done survey in Billings, which showed that over the past 20 years, 70,000 have applied for those reasons.

Rules for food stamps do not vary from county to county and seniors are treated no differently than any other applicants in qualifying for food stamps.

AMEN! I can't figure out why immigrants should receive food stamps! If we go to their country, we get NO assistance.

Can you buy beer, cigs and Ho Ho's with food stamps? What about arugula?

There is a serious misconception here. Immigrants are not necessarily eligible for assistance -- illegal immigrants are generally NOT eligible for most assistance except for some federal aid given to emergency rooms -- and even those who are here as legal refugees have restrictions. Somalis came here after being granted asylum by the first President Bush during a civil war in their country. Ya dont like that, write him in Maine.
