Ohio 8th-grader suspended for wild Bengals haircut

The school's... code of conduct prohibits extreme and distracting hairstyles." Given the styles of hair today I wonder how you define extreme and distracting? In Malaysia social conformity is expressed where 90%+ of the students have to wear school uniforms. When it comes to hair, Muslims cover up and the other schools require set lengths of hair for both boys and girls. Things are definitely more liberal over there, but I don't see his hairstyle being that extreme or distracting.

I'm not a big football fan but he wasn't hurting anyone with the haircut. How would this haircut be distracting?When I was in high school I was a "metal head" . I wore my crazy clothing and had crazy hair but I still managed to make all A's . Everyone in my class graduated as well.My bestfriend in highschool had a mohalk .After people got to know us they didn't seem to judge based on appearence. Those were the best years and it was fun to mess with my hair the way I did. Thank God I didn't go to a school that was so restricting. My school did have a dress code (no provacitive clothing, nothing with alchol or tobaccao product printed on them, nothing with profanity wrote on them, ect...). I don't however recall anything about banning certian hairstyles in school. If there had been I would of been the first to be made to go to the principal's office about it.
