Learn to make sense out of what you write before you write it. I think the point is we need to challenge rules. Rules are arbitrary and if society is to progress, some need to be challenged. Especially ones that waste time, energy, money, and lives. I fear self righteousness...I find that is a quality of some of the worst offenders; There is a rule that cigarette butts are litter. Look at any exit ramp. There is a speed limit. Just drive around. We are not talking a minority here. People are taking pens and paper from work. Good heavens. Unless someone is so perfectly indoctrinated and subservient to they system, they really should not be criticizing the small acts of self realization of others. Question authority. Self determination...no more robots.

This is just silly, I think the school officials should worry more about actual "dress" code than a haircut. around here I have seen young girls 13 or 14 maybe younger being allowed to wear skirts so short and tops that are very provocative I think they should worry about that more than kids hair cuts. Or better yet worry about the drugs going into the schools, or the kids with failing grades.

Judge not, lest ye be judged. Clearly you didn't understand the earlier comment; you "counterdicted" (sic) yourself. lol! None are more full of contradictions and hypocrisy than the self-righteous.

Is this kid on drugs? How does a haircut hurt his studying, behavior in class, academic achievement???? If he is doing his school work and is a good student, what's the problem? Our son went thru a similar time with his hair. He caused no other problem that we heard of.... except from his own grandmother. His parents smiled and waited...

Also, I dont see bengal stripes on the sides of his head.....maybe the back, but the sides are def not bengal stripes. Absolutely right! Rules are Rules - for a reason. That is the problem today as you said. And, worse part of this is the parents make excuses for these kids that break the rules - supporting their lack of respect for discipline & as a result - much bigger problems later in life.

Would I cut my hair like that? No. Is it "inappropriate"? No, plus that is a very subjective measurement. The policy states "Unnaturally colored hair". This doesn't seem to fail that test. By their own policy, this is not a violation. A brunette changing his/her hair to blond, however - THAT would be a violation. These administrators are so incompetent that they should be the ones suspended - AND without pay! I'm 51 and pretty old fashioned and conservative, but even I am not so stuck up that I feel that this haircut violates anything other than good taste. They seem to be violating his rights by keeping him from school. An "A" and "B" student? Not allowed in school? I think that they have lost their perspective on this one.

Rules are rules - where do you start to deviate from that - at what point is it a ridiculous rule (in whom's oppinion)? Plus, once again, please read poster #16!

This same school board gave my daughter the swine flu mist after I sent the permission slip back DENYING IT. Seems they need to worry about other things then a child expressing themselves. I'm sure my daughter is not the first and wont be the last....

Right - rules ARE rules. The RULE specified the hair COLOR - not the cut. If you read THEIR rule, he didn't violate it. It's not the rule that's ridiculous - it's their interpretation that has nothing to do with the rule as it is written. Plus, once again,(using your term) poster number 16 (first amendment right to free speech not applying to minors) has nothing to do with my post. I simply stated that the school administration should not deviate from their own rule. I'm not deviating from it - I had no say in the interpretation. Had I had a say in it, the rule would have been followed, not deviated from as the school administration did.

Its the infamous artist/barber from Razor Sharp barbershop checkin in! the Hamilton City Schools have backed down and let Dustin back in regular class rooms as of next Monday. Still the fact remains that on that day the more fortunate kids will be able to show their team support by waking up Monday morning and putting on the latest Bengals jersey, while Dustin will put his plain white tee or maybe his plain grey hoodie on because he has only a few things to choose from. Hes not one of the most popular kids in the school and often shares with me the disrepect and degrading things that are said to him by some of the othere students! He is constantly judged by his clothing and unkemptness! So we found an alternative way for he to express himself! His grades have risen to As and Bs! His self esteem has risen tremendously! How can something so simple be blown out of proportion so much......After all, it was a something positive(if your a Bengals fan)!!!!!!!

Ryan u are 100% on the money, so to speak!lol and some people live in their own world and dont have a clue what is happening around them.....its ignorance, plain and simple! he didnt get the haircut to disturb any of his classmates! He got it to feel excepted amonst his peers while expressing his love for the Bengals! It really helped this young mans self esteem, which in turn helped his grades and his attitude toward his everyone around him! Its really a beautiful thing! He got much more attention than he bargained for and its all helping him become a productive young man in society! Coming from someone who mentor and educates him on a daily basis
