I'm really tired of these types of reports too, but for a different reason. The fact is that approved medications kill more people every year then so-called "herbal cures". Check it out if you don't believe this. Reports such as this one discourage people from investigating the true facts. It is true that our mental state makes a big difference in how we heal, but this applies to any type of healing experience, including surgery, but the title of this report is aimed exclusively at making people who seek alternative therapies look stupid. Truly informed consumers of medical health care know that they need to seek out educated doctors who look for the reason we are not well and seek to deal with those factors in order to bring about a true healing rather then dealing only with the symptoms. Since nutrition and other factors are critical to remaining healthy, it is sometimes necessary for us to take nutritional supplements, change our diets, and do other things to assist in our healing. Which is better - to stay on a prescrition med to control hypertension our entire life or learn how to return to a healthy state so that we don't need to take the prescription? I elect to learn what it takes to remain healthy, reserving prescriptions for situations where I am not successful instead of thinking of them as the first line of defense. And I use doctors who are educated but open minded, not afraid to explore non-traditional ways of healing. People turn to quacks and look for miracle cures because they are so frustrated with the traditional health care system which is controlled so tightly by pharmaceutical companies. A report such as this one is one more attempt to discredit any type of healing that takes place outside the scope of pharmaceutical drugs and expensive therapies. In any other business, much of what goes on in traditional medicine would be called a conflict of interest. And people take drugs for years and years and never get well. If the goal is to help people avoid quacks, then it is time to integrate the proven non-traditional therapies into mainstream medical care and truly help people understand what is required to remain healthy and offer them choices.

Janelle, I am with you on this one. Nice composition and response to the letter, well done.
The letter says this is what the experts say? Over all, I would say most "experts" are like the name implies "X- SPERMS sperted". As in like wasted "educated idiots" with mostly a swollen and rotten ego that is interested in notoriety as well as money. People who believe the toilet paper that the certified certificate some college dean, a professional expert extortionist has awarded them is written on is holy stuff. To elaborate, an expert is not much different than a placebo. It is who we chose to trust and believe. Any expert in any court can be countered with some other expert. Especially if there is enough money involved. Take global warming as an example. So in what do I trust that will not trick me? "POT AND THOUGHT" home grown and organic, straight from mother earth, and organic food, nothing refined or with a face. That is a drug I trust, one not tampered with by professional experts wanting to make a buck weather I live or die. My opinion is that Monsanto and companies like it have killed or at least done more harm than they have done good. Like Fire fighters. |

Stephens,,agree, agree, agree,,,but careful with the 'Like Fire fighters' thing..Curious why you used that on the end of your thread.?? I was a fire fighter for 4 years, real hot at times,,not to mention emotional..so just curious is all...trying not to take it personnally. The idea of placebos has its place, but it can be a dangerous idea for people who don't understand it....ie, false expectations. |

Placebo? At first glance I thought it read placenta. Now there is a topic.

Placenta power behind many natural cures.

Stephens has got a bit of a chip on the shoulder for cops and firefighters. Can't tell you why, but the average person doesn't bring them up every time he posts on here. His response will probably include something about them being lazy, their huge egos, and needing to get rid of them right away. |

Some of these non-traditional medicines have actual clinical value, the catch of course being that actual research to establish that value is generally very limited or non-existent altogether. Why? Probably because you wouldn't have any real reason to expect much of a result, so doctors and researchers have much more promising candidates for research than some herbal supplement. A great example of a non-traditional medicine that has gained some acceptance is acupuncture, which research has shown to outperform its placebo (sham acupuncture - basically just randomly poking people with needles and telling them they're getting acupuncture) for a number of conditions. Herbal supplement being sold in the aisle at a store? You have to doubt with all sincerity that it's got even the slightest evidence that it does what it claims (note that the bottles usually admit this). Still, a placebo effect is definitely better than nothing at all, and there's a lot of evidence showing that a convincing placebo is more effective than one the patient doesn't really trust. Even if something has absolutely no clinical value, if it's a good placebo it'll still help some people. |

1 <quoted text>Exactly a very long time, thank you. That is one of the points that proves my case. Truancy laws are a crime against humanity, designed to control and brain wash the entire populaces equally. Passed into law for the making of profit and taxation. Possibly to suppress creativity and development of the human spirit! I am happy, I think I am one who smoked through the cracks |

1 You are wrong on almost every claim. It is not necessary or beneficial to take supplements. Some drugs are harmful, but that is what cost/benefit is all about. Many supplements are harmful or worthless. There is no science behind them. You should try to get by without taking anything. By the way, you are all going to die. Get over yourselves. |
