What are you babbling about? If you give some specific information and ask a reasonable and understandable question, you might get an answer. What makes you think the line was moved?
|

Well Valdostan the fact that on every map and the new flood plain maps that just recently came out show the county line to be further north, in its correct spot. The reason some may be curious is the simple fact that the Lanier county Sheriff lives in Lowndes County. Lowndes has 2 Sheriff's. The question was reasonable and understandable, who moved it, who has the authority to do so. You must have the same education as that Sheriff in Lanier County if you did not understand teh question!

Thats supposed to be THE, some may begin to think my education level is the same as the Sheriff!

EVERY map?? Are you sure about that? How do you know that the line wasn't in the correct spot before? Maybe the new flood plain maps are wrong. Nobody just moves a governmental boundary line. They may move the line on the map, but it's still in the same place on the face of the earth. If it's that much of an issue, hire a registered land surveyor to go out there and establish the actual position of the line on the ground.

Lanier County was proposed to be created on Aug. 11, 1919. The county was actually created Aug 7, 1920. The County Line that you are referring to runs along the southern boundries of land lots 236,271,282,317,328,363,374,40 9 and 420 to the run of the Alapaha River. The land lots cannot be changed. I agree the Lowndes/Lanier county sign on Highway 221 has definitely been moved 300 to 400 yards south.

Tax payers you are correct about the plots that form the southern boundary to Lanier County, Valdostan the sign along with the tax assessors maps were changed for the purpose of allowing the current Sheriff to appear to live in Lanier County. It is amazing what can happen when the corruption reaches high levels in the government!

Only the GA General Assembly in Atlanta can change the bounds of a county. There is no other LEGAL way to change the bounds of a county.

Thank you, Ron. These folks seem to think that just because a sign was moved (which may have been in the wrong place to start with) that a county boundary has been moved. They adhere to the same philosophy as a guy I used to work with whose favorite saying was, "My mind's made up, don't confuse me with facts."
