I bet the State paid Bureaucrat who counts counts the number of nights makes 135K.
$82 a night how is this calculated? You can stay in a Marriott Residence Inn and get breakfest and dinner for $89 a night in mosts cities much more upper crust and costly than Middletown.
Lots of homes for sale in Durham, will Middletown become flooded with Durhams poor?
Probably-whattaya think they'll pay for?

So how are the towns responsible for the homeless?? Go find your money somewhere else.
It's getting too easy to be "homeless" nowadays, there's a shelter on every street in Hartford.
Most of them apparently eat a lot better than I & all of them dress better.

Shawn, we need jobs...mental health services at times, but jobs. I ran across a man I hadn't seen in a few months the other day who looked happier than a child eating ice cream in the summer and he was painting a fence in a hot July summer day. I even asked him if he has a job...hahaha, you had to be there , but it is tough out there...many familiar tired and restless faces out there who are in need more jobs and self worth...a roof over heads is temporary permanent housing and...did I mention good jobs are what is needed. Anyone with a good job I encourage you to post it...many good people in need of jobs out here.
Education is so key; which it is why it's so important that, as a society we invest first in our children's education. Without that foundation, getting a job by which one can provide for themselves and their families is a pipe dream. Many people in shelters DO work but lack the income to afford an apartment. But I do agree with you that folks need education, job training and jobs if they're ever going to be able to get themselves out of the shelters.

Congrats to Middletown for showing towns their homeless population--I believe that unless we do this more the "hidden difficulties for the homeless can not be dealt with---other cities who have been sheltering for years their neighboring towns homeless need to start to do the same
Fran, read the article. The homeless folks residing in this shelter are not all theirs. Surrounding towns, as does mine, benefit from funneling all the people to Middletown. It just so happens that all the social programs are located in town. The workers there, push to keep these people in Middletown so the homeless use the services they provide and keep the statistics up. Half of the work the services do is collect statistics to keep their jobs.

So basically Fran, it is good for most towns, but not so for Middletown. Here's hoping the state, somehow, reimburses the city for just another state run service. CVH, Whiting Forensic, detox services, Riverview Children's and on, and on.
