Actually when I was 15,some friends and I were up in Turnbull canyon,on a strange road that plunged into the darkness, drinking a few beers and hearing for the first time the crappy sounds of guns and roses. This was in '87.After we convinced them to turn that crap off,we heard down in the recesses of the canyon what sounded like about 50 people chanting in sinister tones. This went on for a few minutes and then all of a sudden some woman screamed a horrible blood curdling scream. Then we heard what sounded like metal pipes banging against a body, followed by another scream or two then silence. Then the chanting started up again. We shit bricks, tossed our beers down the hill, jumped in the car and got the fuck out of there.Strangely,I've never been able to find that place again though I've looked hundreds of times and been down every street in the canyon.I think it was a sacrifice, unless some joker was just watching a movie about a sacrifice with the sound up really loud. However I have a feeling that's not the case.

It has been well known that this place was a haven for partying and people in the occult. People I personally knew in jr. high and high school used to go there.(For the partying). I went there one time, and I just remember some water tower that people used to go to. I wouldn't recognize where we were at in the day time. Years ago, people used to take their driving tests over there, don't know if they still do.

My son and I took a drive out there today, Friday the 13th - we were eating fresh green apples because that's the traditional thing to snack on for a day like this. It was noon and the temperature was about 86 degrees and I pulled off to the side of the road up there in Turnbull Canyon Road, where it's all dirt and beautiful scenery. My boy was scared and grabbed by arm, stopping me from exiting my van. "Don't go, Mom!" he insisted, "The man in the baggy pants is watching us." I didn't see no man, but my son said he vanished behind a tree. So, I was creeped out and started to drive slowly the rest of the way out of the Turnbull Road. We were headed in the direction of Whittier, so we passed all the big houses with the big front yards. Houses are cheap up there because the legends are pretty brutal on the equity of the homes, esp the homes that border on the wild, natural side of TCR. I was going up the hill and loved seeing all the magestic oak trees...it was a beautiful day. As the road began to grade downwards, I was carefully manuevering my big van down around another snake-like curve and I chanced to see a woman with dark flowing hair, wearing a grey silk gown. She was coming out of the pine trees in a desolate area of the road...there were no cars other than my own and I had to look away for a second to negotiate the curve, but when I looked back to find her, the lady had completely vanished! That gave me such a creepy feeling, but I continued to drive without looking any further for her. There was some deaths that occured up in Turnbull Canyon, in recent years. Some mechanisms of death were so cruel and unnecessary. It gave me the shivers to think of it and as we drove back into civilization,I felt pretty certain that I'd never drive this road again. The feeling of foreboding was just too great, plus those hair-pinned turns gave me cause to fear falling off the edge of the road! There were times that I felt the forces of something sinister trying to push my foot darn hard on the gas, especially around the curves, but I keep two holy rosaries on my rear view mirror today they realy paid off!

The really scary part is that people actually believe this nonsense.

It could be nonsense but it sells newspapers and gets us to write comments. On the other hand, local urban myths have always been around. No decent town should be without one. a note: they all start with some truth.
