Why should we honor a man by flying the flags at half staff for killing an 18 year old boy. I just don't get that.

Of course, cops (no matter how corrupt, vile or negligent) are always praised and their sins glossed over.

I had a job many years ago that put me in regular contact with alot of off-duty cops, I really am thankful people are willing to do that type of work, we need them and owe them a tremendous debt. With that being said, they as a group are some of the most peculiar people on this plant. They are never completely "off-duty", nor would they ever WANT to be. They are the proverbial chicken/egg question. Were they A$$HOLES before they became "Peace" officers or did the job do it to them? Every Cop, not most, not some, everyone of them had a US(cop) against them(you and I) mentality. They were the only good guys, citizens without criminal histories just hadn't been caught yet, but give them time, they'll get caught eventually.
I am not Cop Bashing, a few of them I considered to be at least casual friends, but that didn't stop me from seeing them for what they were, or them seeing me for what I was, "I was one of them", and we all knew it.

HACIENDA HEIGHTS - An off-duty Los Angeles County police lieutenant and an 18-year-old Ontario man were killed during an early morning collision on the 60 Freeway, officials said.
Ryan Steven Blakeslee, 18, from Ontario and Lt. Gilbert L. Valderrama, 55, of Montclair died at the scene.
The California Highway Patrol said the crash on the eastbound Pomona Freeway just west of South Hacienda Boulevard was reported around 12:40 a.m.
Valderrama, a 19-year veteran, worked with the county's Public Safety Department and had been working at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, county officials said.
Blakeslee, who just turned 18 in May, recently graduated from Walnut High School.
Preliminary reports indicate the minivan driven by an unlicensed 15-year-old was involved in a solo-vehicle, non-injury crash that left the car stuck in the number one lane of the freeway.
All five occupants of the minivan, including Blakeslee, left it and walked to the center divider wall in front of the minivan, officials said.
Valderrama was driving eastbound in a red Chevy Blazer on his way home from work. He crashed into the back of the van, according to police reports.
The collision caused the minivan to hit Blakeslee, who was sitting on the center median, throwing his body into the freeway's westbound lanes, said CHP Officer Joe Zizi.
The Blazer overturned and Valderrama was ejected. The vehicle landed on Valderrama and killed

him, according to the CHP. Valderrama was not wearing a seat belt, Zizi said.
Several lanes on both sides of the freeway were closed for four hours before reopening.
Zizi said the accident investigation is continuing. There were more than 20 witnesses remaining to be interviewed late Wednesday.
It is unclear what charges, if any, the 15-year-old may be facing, Zizi said.

A 15yr old driver is irrevelent to the fact(we have 100's of unlicensed drivers on the road daily).Initial reports indicate the officer was not wearing a seat belt and was obviously not attentive to the job of driving. It will be interesting to see how the final report is skewed.

Of course it is relevant, a 15 year old driving, and probably an anchor rat. They left the vehicles in the traffic lanes...have you ever tried to stop when traffic is moving at 60 MPH? Yeah, let's blame the cop not wearing his seat belt. Your're an ignorant f.

Your're? Your are? I believe, sport, that proper American grammar requires that you write "you're", as in "you are". So, when referring to someone else as an "ignorant f", please take care to tend to your own statements lest you wind up looking likewise.

As to your question, when I am traveling along the freeway, I pay attention to the road ahead of me so there is NO NEED to go from 60 m.p.h. to ZERO m.p.h. in a nanosecond.

The negligent cop was not paying attention and the negligent cop died. Unfortunately, he was not the only one.

The death of both of these individuals is very sad. To judge the cop just because he is a cop is f'ing retarded. Unless you actually witnessed what happened, you can not assume that he was not paying attention or being negligent. How do you know he wasn't cut-off? Also consider that the teenager's vehicle was in the center of the freeway because it had previously crashed and quite possibly, was blacked-out. This would've made it especially difficult to see at 12:40 in the morning. Besides, who refers to someone as "sport" nowadays? What are you like 80? Someone who served idiots like you for 19 years deserve much more.

It certainly was not diligent, attentive driving that put him six-feet under, now is it?

And no, Champ; I am not "like 80". I am about 50 years younger than that.

I really don't see which part of Nerf's comment was non-factual. He never said it was in the middle of the road. If you read it again, he stated that he was in the center. Sounds like someone else needs to take some reading comprehension lessons. Dumb*ss!!!

I don't believe I mentioned anything abut "anchor rat" and possibly the van couldn"t be moved. And,yes I have had to "lock em up" or take evasive action as I have a comm. license and spend a lot of time on the road.I believe you are the ignorant **** until we get the full report!

Los Angeles County Supervisor Yvonne Burke is a b i t c h for not recognizing that an innocent 18 year-old man was killed. The cop on the other hand probably deserved it. I'll bet he made life miserable for a lot of people just for the hell of it. Too bad an innocent man of 18 had to die. Too bad the cop that flew out of the SUV from not wearing his seatbelt was not a Buena Park policeman.

True enough .. but what can you expect. When they pin on the badge, they extract the humanity (in most cases). Eventually the Karma bites you square in the hoohas.
I'm sad for the poor kid who lost his life. He didn't even have a chance to have a life. But not for this pr1ck of a cop who was breaking the law by driving without a seat-belt.(I know, I just paid a $135 ticket for the same thing). I guess he knows he's not exempt now.
two people will be missed

don't blame the 15 year old he was diving yes (he shouldn't have been)but when the 2nd accedent happened he was out of the car! he had pulled over enough to where the off duty cop should have seen him. this was just a tragic accedent! two people will be missed i know one of them and miss him dearly. maybe this off duty cop shouldn't have been working such a long shift before this tragity happened maybe he was fatigued and shouldn't have been driving, this may have prevented the death of two people that have familys that miss them dearly.
