While I fully agree with some regulations concerning dress codes, I feel the school board and the community of Needville , Texas is completely off base when it comes to a rule on hair length. I assume the same length would be against the rules for females and Teachers in the school system. If not, I must be correct in considering this a policy of sexual / personel discrimination. One of the needed lessons that schools should be concerned about is teaching our children to have open minds and to recognize that we are all different. Please Needville, come into the 21 century!

I do not agree with the school at all. I think the parents need to sue the School District for discrimination. I thought school was a place to education our childern not what they need to look like. Our company was looking to build in Needville TX but if this is how they run there school system they can for get it. I want my childern to get an eduction. Not critized on how someone looks.

What are these parents teaching their child. They need to cut his hair and let him go to school. If you wants long hair then he needs to be home school.

Why should all the children follow the rules except for this one? The community elects the school board members, and the board members write the rules. Isn't that how a democracy runs? If the majority of the citizens of Needville want to change the rule they can, but lets not let one family dictate to a community what is right and what is wrong.

Steve O, Needville is not a Democracy. Look into Needville's history of elected officials and tell me it is a democracy. A few govern the many. You could say its a socialist entity where a few decide what is best for the whole and retain the power for themselves. White is Right! Is what they would say. But, I must confess that I completely disagree with them. The community is stuck in yesteryears and this event is like Black Americans fighting for their rights in the South in small scale. Just another small Texas town trying to keep to the old ways. Sad, very sad. I have to commend the youth of the area. They see the world much different for the most part.

SUBJECT: HUMAN RIGHTS OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES

July 17, 2008

"The United Nations has increasingly taken up the cause of Indigenous people, who are considered among the world's most disadvantaged groups.

Excluded from the decision-making process, many Indigenous people have been marginalized, exploited, assimilated and subjected to repression, torture and murder when they speak out in defense of their rights.

Fearing persecution, they often become refugees or they try to mask their identity, abandoning their languages and traditional customs and clothing."

(quote from un.org )

RESPECT HUMAN RIGHTS & DIGNITY.

I support the parents. The citizens of Needville are showing their narrow-mindedness in this matter. We are all individuals and 'needless' conformity is a violation of an individuals human rights, especially so for Indigenous peoples.

Even backwards Needville and it's backwards, conformist, stiff, concrete thinking, rule-loving, controlling, school superintendant will eventually have to change. If not now just; watch-it will be later.

My kids went to Needville and because they were not "Christians" they were persecuted by the other kids. They came home crying in first grade because the other kids informed them that they were all going to Hell.
Many of the elderly here still use the N word. My neighbors said they called the police just because they saw a black person taking a walk in their mostly white area. Is there a law against blacks taking a walk here?
I feel like I am living in a town where they have not heard of Civil Rights yet. Outsiders seem to be the enemy to their Christian values. They don't seem to understand that people of other religions have morals too.
With the new High School I hope there will be new children from many faiths and cultures. A place where children learn to get along with those unlike themselves.

If you compare Needville schools to other schools you'll realize these rules that you say are backwards, etc. is the reason why Needville is a whole lot better than the rest of these schools.

To Bluejays - "If you compare Needville schools to other schools you'll realize these rules that you say are backwards, etc. is the reason why Needville is a whole lot better than the rest of these schools."

Ignoring Human Rights & Dignity as established by the United Nations and enacted into law in many countries, including USA will NOT change the fact that anyone, male or female, has the right to wear their hair anyway they want, any colour they want and any length they want. Unless of course, they are in the service of their country.

Your racism wouldn't be welcome in Canada.
Change is good, when one door closes another opens. There is nothing to fear but fear itself.

DON'T YOU THINK THERE ARE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS IN THE WORLD THAT NEED ATTENDING TO OTHER THAN THE LENGTH OF THIS CHILD'S HAIR?

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Virgo

Be careful you don't wind up doing someone else's work today, Virgo. There are all sorts of little tricks to persuade you to take pity on them, from pretending to be ill to making such a hash of everything that you can't bear to watch for a moment longer. Then you are likely to be asked to put in some overtime, at the expense of your social life. Grr.
