Is this rediculous law an indication Oklahoma is a police state? I've heard so much about the "Unique American freedom" - the latter must be an illusion then.
Where I live many a police car has the strongest tinted windows there are. But we have no restrictions for anyone as to tinted windows. It regulates itself - most Norwegian car drivers want to be able to see out of the windows when driving.
Evidently our police don't have the same desire for peeping as the Oklahoma police do. But then you are definitely more religious in Oklahoma than we are here....explains a lot.

SNJ-Religion really has nothing to do with it. The number 1 reason people prefer tinted windows is because is it really hot here and it keeps the temperature in our cars down. The 2nd reason is a combination of looking good and privacy. Police are concerned that since they can't see the driver they don't know what they are doing and want to stay safe (you never know who has a gun). But what most people want is to just pick their noses in private while and have their car look good at the same time.

Must be a terrible dilemma - and a serious conflict /distrust between the police and the public.

Tinted windows are allowed, but excessively tinted windows impair the driver's view - especially at night. Most states limit the tint that is allowed on the windshield and the front doors for this reason.

Police safety isn't the issue, because the back windows aren't affected. This is not a matter of religion or fascism, nor is it a restriction of any freedom.

It is a common sense matter of public safety.

where i do find this venture slightly unusual, i have to admit as someone about to graduate with my criminal justice-policing degree, and who has done several ride-alongs with various police departments, one of the freakiest things that i encounter on traffic stops, is pulling up to extremely tinted windows. I do not like not being able to see what they are doing in their car and it makes the initial approach a little bit more risky and unnerving. I understand the point behind the illegality of extremely tinted windows, but maybe setting out on a crusade to catch them is a little much. perhaps jsut cite them as you go.
i will likely do that, or give written warnings, depending of course on the situation.

The real reason that tinted windows aren't allowed is so that the cops can see if you're black or not. If you try to escape racial profiling with tinted windows, the 5-O can just go ahead and pull you over.

I have seen a lot of cop cars with windows tinted to dark to see, therefore if we have to give up some tinting they should have too as well!

Charla, the police have good reasons for tinted windows. the same reason they shine the really bright light into your mirrors when you get pulled over.. they dont want you to see them and where they are walking. that is for their saftey and their protection.

Tinted windows arendt even the issue here. What is going on is that every time times are hard they come up with new ways to increase their Revenue never ever fails you can count on it,from Seatbelts to Cell Phones you name it,it's not about safety it's about the almighty American Dollar. They don't know how to make ends meet with what the got like we average American Joe's have to so you find something.....Hence you go after Window Tints.
Money, money, money thats all they see keep soaking the hard working trying to survive American People for all they got and then some because enough is never enough.
I know i'm getting about as fed up as one can get,as i'm sick and tired of having to make up everybodys shortcommings weather it be the State or Federal i am being Taxe'd and Fined to Death, and like i said i for one are fed up.
Even the Tollroads in Oklahoma to Oklahomans are a insult and a slap in the Face.
When are we as a People ever gonna say enough...learn to budget like we have to to make ends meet, quit making up more and more Laws to soak us for more Money.
Quit making crap up just to justify more Money learn to do with what you got.
End of Story

I'm really Fed up to keep it Clean.
