I agree with sweedee and pj!

Plus, I think it is obvious the Oklahoma legislature does not like the elderly or the disabled. They will sing a different tune if they ever get old or disabled!!! Of course by then, they will have all the lobbyist money to live on!!

How did State Rep. Ken Miller vote on tapping the rainy day fund??? We should find out, given he wants to run for state Treasurer. I want my tax $$ to go to the elderly, not the legislature's rich friends!

You think an agency as big as the Department of Human Services would try another cost savings measure like furlough their 7,000+ employees for one day a month before cutting a program to the elderly who have no alternatives to get meals for themselves. Suppose this was done to ensure their agency could gain access to the state's rainy day funds since no legislator would camp in front of the capitol to protect the income of a state worker but would do so to save a program for the elderly. Just think it is sad that when asked to make budget cuts this state agency felt it was the best decision to cut funds to those who are in the greatest need rather than make cuts in others ways.

This is outrageous. So more Oklahoma seniors going without what might be there only hot meal or healthy meal a day. Oklahoma government get your heads on straight. Get your priorities straight just because we are seniors does not mean we have money, social security is a joke. It does not mean we do not get hungry or are not worth a meal. Maybe Oklahoma people need to examine their political leaders closer and chose more wisely at election time. Where did the money go and where are they wasting it now. Tell our elected officials to go with out a meal and maybe they could find the money
If project heart is going to shut down one day a week the SENIORS should still be able to come to the center to play cards and bring a dish making it pot luck if they want..Project Heart enforcing rules of not serving people not in the city .. That isn't right especially for rural towns for lots live outside the area yet pay taxes state, county and city and help in the community.. It is also not right that the agency is not going to take any new members but put them on a list. Also this not able to take food to someone if sick or out of the hospital something a couple of days or letting a family member take it with them is not right.. Need some changes.. They are also wanting to tap into the senior center city tax by possibly having the centers to basically reimburse Project Heart for supplies neccesary to deliver the meals to people. THATS NOT RIGHT!!! The centers have already purchase kitchen equipment at our place and unable to use it nor able to use the room for anything..

ALSO shouldn't have the seniors take the full cut.. Oh employees protest for their jobs every year, Police, Teachers just to name a few. In the past the monies are given back to employees of the elected officials and tax commission just not other agencies.. That isn't right either. Had to add that in.. Or that is what I have heard.

Your right again.. Also have Shane Jett that isn't speaking out to save the senior program but heard he will be running for Fallin position.. I certainly don't want him or anyone else that at the state level not being for the elderly be a U.S. Official making decisions for the whole United States.. I don't care if it is a Rep or Dem if they aren't for the people who elected them don't need to be there.

It is not a function of government to pay the personal expenses of any person. That is why this nation is bankrupt!

Sweedee.

Actually, you may as well figure in far more than 1 day a month. Remember, we are already going to hit the 5th month of the fiscal year, so only 7 payrolls remain. Then you must factor in the amount of total cuts necessary to replace the $7.4 million in lost state funding. Suddenly, you are looking at the possibility of 3 days per month (at least). I would bet there are many at DHS who could not afford that kind of cut. All around, its a sad situation.:(
