Racetrack irks some
“Racers bring their whole family”
Narrow roads, roaring noise and environmental issues are some of the concerns residents have about a dirt racetrack being built in the northwest corner of the county.
'This would be a calamity,' said John Altman, whose property is near the track and is organizing opposition to it. 'These are dangerous, narrow, winding roads to handle traffic like that.'
Pete Natalie of Saucier, who is one of the partners in the track along with Tony Leidigh of Saucier, said he sees the track as family oriented entertainment. Read more

We live very close to the proposed site for the track and are concerned as well.
Not only the nuisance factors of noise, possible drunk driving in a residential area, etc. I am concerned for the Gopher Tortiose which is on the endangered and protected list in MS. This animal has been seen in and around that area and I wonder if anyone cares that their environment and existance may be in peril. Someone needs to do an environmental evaluation of this potential habitat for this protected species before they totally demolish that area. PS - who knew about this prior to these newspaper pieces? |

If you live very close to the proposed site then you know that stone county is a dry county. If you read the newspaper article then you should know that it will be an alcohol free form of entertainment. If there are any Gopher Tortiose on the property all they have to do is call the Wildlife and Fisheries and they will take them to a protected site. As far as the noise, it's not nascar, they said it's going to be on Friday nights for a few hours. We need more entertainment!! Let's go racin boys!!

i am a local dirttrack racer and i like the idea of a new track.there's not much to do around here anymore besides go to the casino, my family has been in dirt racing since lammey's speedway opened and we have seen alot of changes in racing . as for the people that don't like the idea some people have nothing better to do than bring up the bad something would do and not the good it could do for the community . most of the people that bad mouths racing has never been to a race before and seen fist hand the fun we have and how it gives our youth something to do besides get in to trouble. i say keep on building the track and call me when it's done i will be ther with my car and helmet ready to race, thank you.

Everyone loves it if it doesn't infringe on their own personal space...right? I hope the developer is sincerely looking after the needs of the immediate community. The article spins the story like it is a good time for the whole family. Perhaps...but probably not for the ones living closest to the track...it will probably decrease their property values and way of life. ;)

I understand Sgt. Pete Natalie is a recruiter for the Mississippi National Guard. Is he developing this racetrack on the taxpayer's time?
