My wife and I are coming down for a return Mission Trip to Pass Christian the week 0f 4/27. When we were there 2 years ago, the gnats nearly ate us alive! What can we expect next week?

SkinSoSoft insect repellent is the only thing I have found that works at all. Long sleeves and pants and a hat are a must. Keep exposed skin to a minimum. The good news is the heat will soon drive them off. Then the deer flies, horse flies and mosquitos will take over....

You can also use listerine mouth wash and rub it on your arms and body. The gnats will leave you alone then. I know this works for me as I use it.

How did you determine this works? Did someone tell you about it? Did you just start rubbing stuff on your arms and body to see what might work? I am always curious about how these things are discovered. And yes, I am gullible enough to try the Listerine thing. Does Walmart generic brand Listerine work, or do you have to use the real deal Listerine?

I would think other brands work but I have always used Listerine because that is what I was told would work. When it did work I just stuck with it because it was not that expensive to keep the bugs away. Also even the strong Listerine smell, which does not stay strong long, is much better than a lot of the other things I used.

Sorry I did not really answer your question in my first post. One thing I have learned is elderly people usually know what they are talking about. Someone that was quite a bit older than me told me this and he had lived near the swamps of Florida all of his life.
