I feel that Mayor Koniar has shown leadership and fiscal conservative planning for Foley. The improved sidewalks, downtown parking, paving of streets has been a much needed improvements. The Fire & Police Dept are headed by excellent Chiefs and provide excellent services.
The community recreation opportunities are extensive for the citizens, i.e., public parks, pools, senior center, sports and recreation facilities for youth. Free Music and a Movie nights, the Railroad Depot.
My impression is he works well with the council and does not attempt to micro manage the council.

Couldn't ask for a better Mayor. Keep up the good work--Foley is starting to look much better since the Mayor took an interest in it. The previous Mayor did nothing.

from your computer everything looks good! have you taken an interest in the internal operation things that happen in this graet city. maybe if he did manage things things would be allot better. maybe we would not have men arrested for sexual abuse and admitt to the fact and then walk out of court with a simple harrasment charge. is this taking cake of the citizens. spend a huge amount of money for a new fire station just because some good ole boy gave up 3/4 of an acre while the city has a sub station on co. rd. 12. yea he and the council are reallu doing some good things. sidewalks, what about the children that have to walk in the streets to school because there are no sidewalks. wake up Foley and get involved. Porn shops next to a daycare. Yup, they sure are doing a good job. vote him out

No body with any morals or concern for Children like that situation, why don't you petition to get the zoning changed in that area ? Are you on any type committee trying to make changes or shut that buisness down ?
Or are you just rambling off at the mouth about what needs to be done with out taking any active roll in changing that situation ?

yes we are taking positive steps! but, as long as the tax payers of this city are keopt in the dark there will always be a good ole boy system. if you beleive their isn't such a system then why don't you run for city council in your didtrict. the schools in question are in Eberts district and yes it has been brought to their attention. we are involved and we want a change of leadership. 30 years is long enough of the same leadership.

No one is kept in the dark......evidently the zoning that is there has been there and allows all types of businesses to exist there, and no matter who gets voted in all you hear is OH...it's a good ole Boy system, that phrase is wore out, have town hall meetings and get your community involved, this is what brings change.

get out of your chair and ask ???s it appears that all you do is stay online and add your 2 cents worth wiothout doing any investigaion and call the shots from the house. Sir you have no clue as to what happens in the city!! If you did your answers would be different. The porn shop is in Trawicks area, sidewalks in ebert's area and your Almighty chief of police has dirty fingers, prove me wrong with facts not hear say

]Well that's a pretty big assumption, Police Chief, dirty fingers ? Now you just go right ahead and tell us the situations where his fingers are dirty, evidently you have information that the rest of us don't and it would now become your responsibility to tell the citizens of these bad dealings. The next item would be you stated prove me wrong with facts....you didn't ask any questions that deserve a answer or facts, next item you seem to be on line a lot your self ! And you seem to be one of "those" that accuse every one of being part of the "Good Ole Boy System" when things aren't going in the direction you want, evidently you don't get out much in the world and it is probably a good thing.

"we are involved and we want a change of leadership."

Well, "Foley Five" if you are so involved and doing so much, I have never heard of you or all five of you if your moniker indicates more than actually one poster. Anyway, I really don't agree with anything you say. If you think someone walked out of court with just a simple harassment charge rather than a stricter penalty then that is a matter you should take up with the Court--it is out of the purview of the Mayor. As for more needed sidewalks, I am pretty sure that more sidewalks have been placed during this Mayor's time in office than all of the sidewalks placed during all of the years the previous Mayor was in office. Maybe you don't remember the scandal of a few years ago that involved members of the previous City Council and the Foley Police Department. Foley taxpayers paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for an independent investigator who spent months looking into this matter and then it was turned over to the State ethics department where nothing (as usual) ever happened and the public was only allowed to see certain parts of the investigative report because lots of it was 'redacted'. Nevertheless, the then Mayor resigned about 2-weeks before the publication of the investigation and the Chief of Police retired or was fired and the current Chief of Police was hired. Strange coincidences if nothing wrong had taken place--wouldn't you agree? The current Mayor was not involved. We need another fire department and where it is to be located is where it is needed. Fire departments are always a waste of money until your house is on fire. My only suggestion is that the fire department should build an adjacent hall onto the firehouse so that it can be used for weddings, Friday night dances, bingo, etc. That is what they do up North where I come from and these activities go a long way in supporting the firehouse rather than 100% of the cost coming out of tax revenues.

I agree with you on this entirely. But, Koniar has done a good job as Mayor even if he does know the full-story and in this area and the South in general, we can't expect miracles. I lived in an area up North for many years. For decades, the good-old boys ran the show and protected each other's interests--especially their land and other property holdings at the expense of the other taxpayers. Finally, there was such an influx of new "come-here's" that they over-powered the good-old boys and started to get elected to office. This might happen in Foley as time goes by but don't hold your breath. At least, and I really think this is true, we don't have the crooks running our town that we once did and we have more and more non-good-old boys who are making it more and more difficult for the good old boys to conduct business as usual. Koniar is a "come-here" and a smart man with good intentions and is doing a good job so even if he does know the inside story about what happened in the past, I forgive him for not going public with that information because it would only hurt him and Foley. I'd love for the truth to come out but I think it is the Alabama Ethics Commission that should fess up and let us Foley taxpayers know what our hundreds of thousands of dollars for the investigation actually came up with including all of the final report without all of the redactions that, as you say, were and are only there to protect the guilty.

I don't know what you mean. I was never involved and would love to know the whole story since some of my tax dollars were spent to find out just what took place. And what do you mean by "tell her the whole story"? Who do you mean when you say "her"?

I have observed John Koniar as a councilman and a Mayor. He has shown to be a knowledgeable elected official with the City of Foley and the citizens best interest at heart. He has practiced fiscal conservatism, is honest, open and forward thinking. He represents the City of Foley very well.

If you don't want to be kept in the dark, why don't you start by not keeping yourself there? The city of foley has all of their meetings open to the public, so why don't you go to some instead of keeping yourself in the dark? Stupid is as stupid does...
