Route 45 through Mississippi

We will be vacationing in Orange Beach for two weeks in october and thought about taking route 45 and alt. 45 clear through Mississippi on the way home to Illinois. Can someone tell me the road conditions of Route 45 through Ms? It appears to be a pretty direct route to Illinois.

I have started using this route two years ago. It is great. There is very little traffic. Watch your gas because there are few gas stations between towns. It is 45 ALT that you want to take and not the old route. I live in the Memphis, TN area and I use to take I55, Hwy 49 and 98. No more 45 ALT is the best route. I have told several friends and now 45 is the way they take also.
