If the lights were timed correctly, there would be no need for this government intrusion. No matter what speed you drive in Orlando, every light turns red as one comes up to it - even if they're only 2 blocks apart! Especially in SW - where two cameras are going! Turkey Lake Rd and Conroy-Windermere Rd are impossible to traverse.

Nationwide there have been so many issues with red light cameras. Now lets see it takes a picture of the license plate but not of the drivers face, oh yeah..please just appeal the ticket everyone if they can't prove you were driving then they lose.

Are these criminal or civil violations? If civil, can we really expect a fair appeal process?

Here we go again! Big Brother wants mo money, mo money! These cameras have nothing to do with public safety, it's just another angle to drain revenue from the citizens of Central Florida. I find it interesting that we see signs all over the place as you are approaching intersections that states the present fine for running a redlight is $211.00 yet if you get zapped by a camera it's only $125.00 for the first two infractions! Duh? Why the lesser fine if infact you are getting cited for running a redlight? Does not compute! Also, there's going to be a major bogging down of our traffic court systems, yes even more than it already is, seeing that the State of Florida does not recognize the legality of these cameras. I hope everyone that receives one of these "bogus citations" through the mail takes it to court! I know I surely will! Eventually there will be a class action suit against the cities that have imposed these citations on their constituents and they will have to make restitution! Another pet pieve I have is that Crotty and Dyer have put the city of Orlando in a $30 million dollar hole with all their wheelin' and dealin' with the taxpayers money yet that doesn't slow them down one bit in spending even more and more of money they simply don't have! They have raised property taxes to try and recoup some of their frivilous spending but that surely won't stop there! It's going to get worse and worse the longer these bozoes are in office! If a banker did what these two were doing, he'd be arrested for embezzelment and/or misappropriation of funds.

If you don't run lights, it won't be a problem.

"Liberty" nuts can't comprehend this. They want the right to commit their crimes without detection.

I applaud this decision, especially if it keeps the county from raising property taxes.

This is one act taken by government that I totally agree with. While they may be collecting additional sources of revenue (the incentive to NOT run them) they will definitely act as a deterrant to those who have started making a habit of DELIBERATELY running red lights.

It is so pervasive in some areas, that it has become insane to believe anyone will obey traffic laws. Defensive driving has taken on a completely new meaning.

On my way into work one morning I witnessed one individual run not one, not two, but FOUR red lights...too important to stop was he.....

I SAY GOOD...maybe this will stop those clowns.

Wow Troof...be careful there, people don;t care for people who make sense.

You know what the fine is, you know where the cameras are and yet people still want to whine when they get caught.

Oh and I like the arguement about these cameras cause more rear end collisions. All that happened there is a non redlight runner stopped a redlight runner.
But it's easier to blame a camera than to take responsibility for their own actions.

Hoorah!!! It's about time we get some of the poor drivers to pay for not following the law. I was a victim of a red light runner, at Sand Lake and Turkey Lake. The 2 cars ahead of me were lucky, I was the 3rd car through and my car was totaled. Thank goodness my kids weren't in the car.
We have lived in a number of areas where the cameras are in place, I don't feel my privacy is violated at all. In fact, with the number of accidents declining from red light runners (in those areas), I hope Orlando can afford more! And use the money to teach people how to OBEY THE LAW!!!

Except that if it increases rear end accidents, I am in more danger of some jerk who thinks he's going to make the yellow light at precisely the time I slow down for it. Yeah, he's still responsible, but I still need back surgery and rehab.

"And some studies have shown that rear-end collisions increase at intersections with red-light cameras."

So --- instead of expecting people to behave in a sane and safe manner at intersections, the argument would be to allow these dingbats to continue their insane and dangerous behavior??? I'm sorry, but the logic of this argument totally escapes me.

And what about the municipalities who found out that they weren't receiving the revenue projected? What did they do? They shortened the time for the yellow light -- to make everyone a lawbreaker. And how about when they traffic people in a funereal procession MULTIPLE TIMES????

Your wrong. Since this is a municipal citation (like a parking ticket) it does not matter who is driving. The car owner is getting the fine.

You pay the $125 and who ever you loaned your car to owes you $125. The courts don't care who was driving since no points are being assessed.

I lived in Italy some years ago when they started putting cameras up at intersections like this. One of the first things that happened was a local politician getting caught on camera running a light with his mistress. That picture made the papers. Can't wait for that to happen here.

The 211.00 is the COUNTY fine at COUNTY intersections. The $125 is the fine in the CITY limits at CITY intersections. And the fine is the same if you get caught by OPD. Not that an OPD officer would ever go after a red light runner. But if they did the fine would be the same.

I think those fines are too low. Double em. You are breaking the law. you should pay. And if you cause an accident while running that light? Impound the car. These people violate the law and risk others lives. why be so gentle?

And so what if this is a money grab by the city? Big deal. They are not charging you for it. They are only getting money from people who break the law.

Maybe they need to determine if there is a right turn lane they need to have a right turn signal green so you aren't having to stop when the other direction has a green arrow. It would make the traffic flow smooth. If you don't come to a complete stop before turning right and the camera's got you it seems futile to dispute if you know you're guilty after watching the video. I got caught in Apopka. It was too difficult to try to fight the ticket, traffic court didn't know anything about it and it took too much of my time when I knew I blew the light even though the other direction was turning left on green arrow. I would the the traffic engineers should be able to figure this out.
