It does nt matter,we all used the election process to vote that fraud in.Now it will take 5 or 10 years to straighten out the mess he has made of the coal fields! Our kids will once again have to pack there duds and migrate in every direction in hopes of having a job, family and home. This should indeed be a lesson to everyone who thinks that we should screen our candidates better before putting them in office. This is directly related to all of the Obama policies after he revised and screwed up past policies from current President`s.

Anyone who votes for him this time is just asking for more trouble....NOW they will be the ons to blame !!!! I'm so sorry. Please everyone accept my apologies for misreading the original post. Of course Gary Prater had nothing to do with the layoffs. I thought the post was that United had cheated 39 miners out of their benefits and workers comp and that would probably have been Gary Prater's fault. Or maybe I'm thinking about when Gary Prater was with Jewell Smokeless. So sorry.

Before I respond fully - I just want to make sure you are aware of the cost benefits of natural gas (which power plants are moving to) as compared to coal? You also are aware of the CO2 emissions of natural gas as compared to coal? If you really want to blame something, then blame oil companies who have discovered fracking. Due to states in the midwest, and even in NC now, fracking is causing the cost of natural gas to plummet considerably. And due to the incredibly low cost, power companies are moving to the more cost effective and energy efficient approach. It's saving the power companies money, and it's making the green hippies happy with lower pollution. People are pissed off about coal, but they should be more pissed off that our local governments are not opening our huge natural gas reserves in SWVA and allowing those jobs to replace our coal jobs. Instead, our politicians are sitting with their thumbs up their butts, like usual.

It's an election year and the republicans need something to piss people off so they tell people in Appalachia that Obama killed coal. Bush got the ball rolling with new regs and Obama gets the blam. The execs of the power companies complain about the war on coal, but they are all switching p,ants to cheap NG and started doing so even before the regs passed. You've been played coal country, thanks for your votes.

SOOO was it Obama and the EPA's fault that miners 30 years ago went through lay offs? 15 years ago? 20? Coal miners have been laid off under both parties, under white people, under Christians, Catholics.. it does not matter. It's a volatile industry. Get it through your damn brains!

No 20-30 years ago Obama was still trying to get a fake birth certificate.... what an ignorant question. But Obama represents the dregs of America, those who perpetuate welfare recipients just to get votes to stay in office, those who support same sex marriage, the filth in Hollywood, and the out of touch tree huggers. He is as close to a socialist as we have ever had in office. He worshiped in a church for 20 years where the preacher proclaimed "GD America", the Obama wasn't man enough to admit and dropped Rev Jerimiah Wright. Obama has associated with known terrorist in Bill Ayres and nver had a job in his life. But if your daddy and Mommy told you you are a democrat you still live in that dream world. Obama is not just out to destroy the coal industry, he is out to destroy the American way of life. Where hard work gets you ahead, his idea is live off the government just like he does.

I'm not an Obama fan in the least bit, but you're pointing fingers at the wrong person. If you want someone to blame, look at the big checks you take in, that money comes out of someones pocket and you better believe they'll buy whatever is cheaper. Just like you would. That's why natural gas is booming and coal is headed for extinction. No more $75,000 a year paid vacations and insurance to run a machine. Welcome to life with the rest of us.
