as of today if united coal had 30% mangagement that repocoa had before it was bought out and 20% of encouragemment to the men to produce coal with a descent attiude then the men that work for them today would have the other 50% covered.in other words show the men respect and they will show the company respect...25 year employer.D.P.

Zeus wrote: <quoted text> That is totally stupid. This would have happened no matter who was in office. You need to get your facts straight.... I seriously doubt that any other - namely McCain would have scared the investors as bad as Obama has with his "Cap & Trade" legislation. If you don't believe this then you are clearly following the man blindly with the rest of the Obamatards.

I agree with you Hurley Gal. I pray that things are back to somewhat normal. I know these men need to work to support their families. We all need to just keep praying that things will be fine. And I thought the picnic was on Sat. the 19th the 11th is on a Friday.

Reality wrote: <quoted text> You are absolutely totally unbelievably 110% ignorant!! You are a racist!! There is no place for racism in our society!! There is no excuse for you!! This country was in an economic crisis before President Obama ever took office. Did you forget about the banking crisis, the wallstreet crisis, the auto industry crisis, the mortgage meltdown?? It was only a matter of time until the coal industry suffered also. There's one thing people seriously need to think about before judging someone based on race/color: Human beings were made in the image of God. No human has ever seen the face of the Almighty. He could very well be the very color you have just insulted!! I agree that you should not judge someone for their color ! But he is the one who swore to put an end to coal and made it hard for the coal industry to get the permits need to run a mine !! If he is so into clean energy and against mountain top removal, coal and his so called health care... then he needs to go without the power and air conditioning that coal makes ... have the same health care system that he has put on everyone else and move his big ol butt out of the city where nothng is the way God made it !!! Does he think the cities and Washington was just FLAT when time began ??? If he is so against all these things ... Lets see him do without them !!!

chill out wrote: <quoted text>the 2 weeks off is so the BIG WHEELES OF UNITED can go on vacation and enjoy the money ALL the men made for them..it will pick back up after they get back..it happens this way every summer and christmas think about it...to bad they dont think about the men..hope they enjoy vacation, because the men that worked for them sure is not going to..THINKS UNITED FOR STICKING IT TO US AGAIN.......... The time that mines close is a tradition dating way back. It is known locally as the Miners'Holiday - always over the 4th of July. When mines were unionized, I believe the workers were paid. But since the large companies broke the back of the UMWA by subcontracting to non-union, privately owned mines,it is a layoff more than a vacation. This shift away from unions - with lower wages and fewer benefits started back under Pres. Reagan and has expanded terribly since. So it goes for the middle class.

In the late 1990s and early 2000, when coal was $13.00 a ton, a lot of miners were laid off. Obama is not anticoal; he'santi dirty coal. Those coal burning plants that are being shut down in Va are spewing mercury and other crap. The new plant near Castlewood will be cleaner. Would you want your children to get brain and nerve damage from mercury and dirty coal? I grew up with clean hydroelectric power - the power source was free and clean.
