For less-educated workers, good jobs will be harder to find

The steady loss of "good jobs" by less-educated workers has left them more vulnerable to recession than at any time in nearly 30 years, and signs are mounting that a recession is either already here or coming ...

Well John Kerry said that us dumb folks will end up in Iraq. I guess in my day we ended up in Vietnam, just like him.

Maybe, it'll take a 4 years college degree just to do dishes in a restaurant. Or 2 year to be a waitress. Or, Maybe, there's no jobs for those college students and have to take less educated jobs to pay back the student loans. Keep raising the cost of living, utilities, housing, etc. maybe, we'll all be out of work soon.

With few exceptions, the less educated made bad decisions that put them in the box. It was they who opted out of school or slept through it. If they had maintained any interest they could have gone thru the 12 and if economically disadvantaged receive scholarships or funding from government, private sector, grants, to pursue their dream and ultimately obtain it. Face it folks - throughout the world less educated workers cannot expect or obtain good jobs.

To AKUSMC- Your adulation of Kerry and comment of just like him needs to be applauded. You should be happy to be just like him in Vietnam. After all he went to Vietnam with camera and film and for a couple of months (that's right) a couple of months spent his time filming the persona that he wanted to attach to his resume when seeking the presidency. Please do not poo poo this until you bone up on the public record and printed record available that supports these claims.

I have issues. It's not that I am not well educated. It's that I'm not dark enough and/or I don't speak a foreign language in my English speaking American country. LOLL Enough said.

This is nothing new... how many times have we heard parents and teachers telling children that if they dont further their education, they wont be able to survive, or at least will struggle in life.. as a result of not going to college..

But then again maybe if it wasnt so fu@#$%^ expensive more people would go..

We are doomed.. Just like Rome!!

If you want success, you do it yourself.
College degrees are for people who ~think they have what it takes~ but don't really have what it takes to survive.

Show me the last time a degree put food in your mouth.
Go ahead, show me.

Last I checked, it isn't a degree which counts. Rather, all the more it is what >YOU< can do, and not what some piece of paper says you did someplace else.

In finality, most of the great inventors of this land didn't have degrees from some degree mill on whatever coast, left or right.

And almost all of the most successful men and women didn't have some crap piece of paper saying they were 'great.'

Rather, what made them 'GREAT' was themselves, in what THEY did.

Sure, it's nice being able to say that you spent 'x' number of hours sitting behind a desk, listening to some arse expound about this, that, or another thing, and then passed HIS/HER exam based upon HIS/HER criteria.

As if any of us couldn't do the same thing?

Higher education is HIGHLY overrated. Just look around you to see the evidence of that: College grads flipping burgers?!

All I have to remark of is just this: Colleges and universities are BUSINESSES operating for a PROFIT.

WHY WOULDN'T THEY propagate the idea that 'you can't succeed' without a degree?

THINK ABOUT IT, DAMNITALL!!!

And you can't also expect a world to solely run on a white collar workforce. Plenty of chiefs with no Indians won't keep a nation's gears turning.

Wasn't there a draft for Vietnam? Besides, John Kerry didn't say "dumb folks", he was saying the un-educated and poor. How many college grads ( in challenging majors w/ good grades ) or people from High School with a GPA lower than 3.5 do you see in the army? For many poor and un-educated, the US Army is a way out from the ghettos and a chance for a steady paycheck.

Have you ever given any thought to the matter that THAT is exactly the way the US government wants things?

LOOK: Why would the army want people who can think about things?

They want men who are willing to just 'follow orders.'

The more a man is educated, the less inclined he is to accept orders to just 'go kill.'

NOW, STOP AND =THINK= ABOUT THIS: Why is it, do >YOU< suppose, that high schools have DUMBED DOWN the GPA in order to get a diploma?

THINK ABOUT THAT, DAMN IT ALL!!

NOW, THINK ABOUT THIS: When the time comes, THOSE SAME KIDS will be TOLD TO GO KILL AMERICAN CITIZENS, just because THEY WERE ORDERED TO.

Think I'm kidding here?
THEN, GO READ THIS:

http://www.geoffmetcalf.com/419.html

TAKE A GOOD =LONG LOOK= AT THE LAST QUESTION.

WHY WOULD =ANY= American boy —or girl— be willing to shoot dead, a fellow American citizen?

Are our lives that cheap that our fellows we grew up with, will consider us to be nothing more than dirt beneath their feet, to be dispensed with by a government-issued bullet?

Isn't that the essence of NAZI Germany?

Do >YOU< agree with that?

There's just not enough jobs for all these people. The article calls them 'less-educated' but what we are really talking about is the poor, the lazy and the stupid.

What we need is a euthanasia program. Why is euthanasia still illegal? We do not have room or resources for all these people. Imagine how much the price of gas would go down if we could get rid of a mere 50% of the 'dead weight' we have to carry in this country.

Given the quality of academic integrity these days
I'm not sure a degree will qualify someone to do
dishes in a restaurant and I doubt most would
stoop so low as to lift anything much heavier
than a quarter pounder.

That is bluntly wrong. Frankly, most people who don't go through college simply are not cut out for higher education.
I know a bunch of people, myself included, who tested with 160+ IQ's and found out that we were not suited for college classes, after wasting a heapload of our parents money on them.
The only thing that a 'sheepskin' proves is that someone else thinks you are smart, and with the NUMEROUS ways to cheat on tests today, it doesn't even prove that.

I would be much more pleased if we stopped allowing businesses to discriminate against people based on their education level, and simply told them that they could not take that into account when they are hiring people.
Let's face facts: you don't need a college education for a warehouse job, you don't need a college education for a Wal-mart job, you don't even need a college education to repair and service computerized equipment.

What do you need for that last one? Hands on training and experience, which college does NOT GIVE YOU AT ALL.

College..... I'll be blunt: it's a waste of money in this day and age, but then again so is K-12 education considering that everything they were supposed to 'teach' me in middle and high school besides Spanish, I already knew!

The only thing it is: a straight track to becoming a mercenary with no conscience who kills on orders even women and children.
That is all that it is. It isn't even a 'way out of the ghettos' considering that most Army people get paid LESS than someone working at Wal-Mart.
You should not have to choose between becoming an amoral serial killer (which is what I think everyone in the Army today is) and having a good life when you are 'uneducated'(biggest joke in the world).

Why do I get the sneaking suspicion that you are Pro-life, in spite (or because of) the absolute inhumanity of this post?
