Thank-you'
It's about time that this city establishes laws and guidelines to change the signs to English. We don't live in Mexico, but over the years Albertville has become a Mexican run town it seems.

Well i feel the need to chime in on this issue. I agree with the concept of businesses whether hispanic or american having their signs in the english language. This is purely for public safety reasons. Most police officers and fireman do not read or write in spanish and it could slow down emergency times. Having said that I do not think this issue should become a racial issue. There should not be an ordinance prohibiting the addition of spanish added to any sign whether the business is anglo or hispanic. There should be an ordinance however which dictates how the sign should be decorated or displayed some hand painted and what not signs look like crap and that should be regulated. That will present a nicer image of the town. This should not a racial issue it should be a lets keep the city nice and present a positive image issue. Both sides should agree on that because it benefits everyone.

The EEOC or Equal Employment Opportunity Commission: Title VII clearly states that it Prohibits Discrimination based on Race, Color, Religion, Sex, or National Origin. Can someone tell me how employers are able to advertise job openings that REQUIRE a candidate to be bi-lingual?? Personally I feel that this allows preferential treatment to Hispanic candidates. I see no need to learn to speak a foreign language to obtain employment in my own country. If you go to Mexico or any Latin American country and attempt to conduct business of any kind, you must either learn the language or take an interpreter. Why should Albertville, Alabama be any different?

Your Worst Nightmare-

Tell me, do store fronts in other countries have english under the spoken language of the land?

No, of course not. Why would other countries feel the need to cater to people that refuse to learn and speak the native language.

I'm sure if I openend a store or resturant in Mexico, I would be required to use Spanish. Not required...it's commom sense to use the language spoken.

Although I did not vote for this mayor, I feel he is doing the right thing, not the racisit thing.

Actually, you are the one who seems racist and for the record, no one cares for what you are fighting. Perhaps you could brush up on your grammer while you are taking over a city.

No illegals. Budget balanced. Legals fine, we welcome them. The illegals are breaking the financial back of this country by turning our benefits package on us & draining our syaytems that are put in place to help the American people & those who are here legally to make this a home. I live in Albertville, Al. The illegals here don't have drivers license' nor car insurance. If they run over you, your insurance will have to pay. Our crime rate with illegals is up by over 50%. You'll think diffeently when it happens in your town. Many of these people are wonderful people but they need to go through legal channels. The criminal element is why a lot of illegals don't apply for citizenship. The murder rate alone is up 75%. Most of this comes from illegals that don't register. You send them home & they keep coming back. We don't need Mexicos criminals. Crystal meth manafacturering is on the rise. It doesn't matter how many times the illegals are arrested they just get deported.@ cases this yr. Justice is not serving the people of the United States. It's coming to you sooner than you think..........bet on it. Obama wants Sotomayor on the Supreme court because he will get the hispanic vote. She makes her own laws even thou she's not allowed to by law. Smart political move on his part or is this his one world order. If you don't go along with his beliefs you're out.Watch the news. Keep informed.

yeah, america wasn't called the melting pot because of the diverse group of ethnicity we allowed here!
You tell them hicks... I mean patriots!
ENGLISH isn't on signs in other countries! Even it if is... I'm gonna say it isn't because those mexicos[SIC] need to go home. People in foreign countries, like england, don't speak english... so why should we learn their stupid languages. I don't wanna learn no more, if I did, I would have finished school, or went to college!
If I lived in mexico... I WOULD NEVER wanna leave and come here to our awesome freakin country, so why are they doing it? HUH? tell me that?
AND while I'm on the subject... NOBODY ELSE in America had their ancestors come here while fleeing from a horrible country... NO SIR! Everyone here can trace their lineage back the the native americans that settled this great land!

The business owners are responsible for changing their signs NOT the taxpayers. Since when does the city pay for signs for the businesses??? We own several businesses and we are responsible for the signs and they are supposed to be up to code, inspected and approved by the city council. They should have to follow the same rules as everybody else.

Lexy08.... I'm sure you just skipped over my second post right? You wouldn't respond without reading everything first right?
You own businesses? So you ARE familiar with a business having a DEMOGRAPHIC? If the store caters specifically to a non english speaking person... wouldn't you put the language to the people you are catering to on your sign?

Sure..I understand what you are saying but why can't the sign's be in both English and Spanish. I think the problem is the City Council feels that it is difficult for law enforcement to locate these businesses by name if they don't speak or read Spanish. Don't you think their businesses would benefit from Americans knowing what type of business is there so they could generate more revenue??? I think you may have misunderstood me...
