Full story: Oroville Mercury-Register

Possibly the first taco truck, and at least the first in a very long time, has located in central Oroville.

I can't believe this city even hassles a small taco truck. The things this town does to chase away business just cracks me up!
He isn't allowed to have tables and chairs either! Give me a break. It isn't like a few tables and chairs are going to make our town look any worse.

Oroville, relatively speaking, has a fairly small Mexican or Mexican American population and that's the impetus for most Mexican related businesses. Not surprised it took this long to get a taco truck in town.

Does this Taco truck pay tax's. Does it have a city business license. Does it prepare it's food in a certified kitchen governed by all regulations that other food establishments and restaurants have to abide by. Are all employees paying into social security and having state and federal taxes taken from their checks. Just questions I wonder being a business owner in this city.

I think it would be considered self-employment and there would be not taxes or social security paid in for employees because he runs the business by himself. If he wants to choose to pay it in now or owe a large sum at tax time is his choice and really should be of no concern to anyone else. I'm glad to see a taco truck come to Oroville. I'm sure they are regulated as far as having to have the truck certified as sanitary and acceptable for producing food.

oroville makes me sad. it should be such a lovely city. the lake, the river, the foothills...so much going for it. is it because the county offices are there? the prison? why are so many nasty people in oroville? i know many people who recognize the potential of the city and give it a go living there- but in the end they surrender to the meth-heads and freaks and leave.

This article is a perfect example of why I quit buying the paper long ago. Lazy reporters and editor with short memories. The article starts out with Posibly the first taco truck in Oroville. Since when ? I can recall several taco trucks that have been parked in Oroville over the last 5 years. They may have not been within the city limits but they were still here, on Olive Hwy and Oro Dam West at different times. Thanks for once again proving my point.

He has a city business license, so he has to pay taxes or risk getting caught. The state especially checks into that. The health department inspects all businesses that cook and sell food. He is self employed, so he files that way and pays into his own social security and taxes through self-employment taxes. If he hires an employee, he has to have a tax ID number and pay the payroll taxes.
And it isn't just Mexicans who like Mexican food anymore than it's Chinese who eat Chinese food or Creoles who eat Creole food or Italians who eat Italian food.

A self employed taco vendor, is he the only one in the truck. Does he have a health certificate to opperate, does he clean his workm place daily? I do not eat at these rolling vendors, rodents climb in at night where there parked and contaminate the surfaces, some do not refrigerate during night when parked. As in west Oakland there are 7 parked on each corner, extreme violence and shootings come with them. Good luck Oroville and there customers!

I totally agree with Not Surprized. The Oroville Mercury Register tells us the Taco Truck is located in front of Air Cooled Unlimited. Being fairly new to Oroville I don't know where that is. What ever happened to the basic "W's" in every article. Who, What, Where, When and Why?
Honestly, what is the purpose of this article if you are not even going to share their address so we can give them our business.

This is the part of the article I found the most interesting. "The city requires potential vendors to draw up a plan showing where they want to put outdoor tables and chairs, even though city zoning prohibits them." What???

While I am supportive of anyone willing to open a business in Oroville, I find it a little unjustified in opening a "taco truck" v. opening an actual business. It seems unfair to the business owner that has to oblige the city/county with landscaping plans, sidewalks, gutters, right-of-ways, etc. and then this guy rolls up in a truck with little to no standards to uphold. Taco trucks in the county sound okay, but within a city, seems unfair to the other businesses in town.

Why the big fuss? It is a taco truck, it is not a sit down restaurant. If you do not like taco trucks then do not eat there. If you want a sit down restaurant that has air conditioning and a waitperson to take your order go some place else. They each cater to completely different customers. Personally if I am eating at a restaurant I do not want some smelly construction worker sitting near me. But if I am eating at a taco truck I am probably taking it to go. It is not unfair to anybody.

TOTALLY agree, i had to do all the above before i could even open the doors. Guess its smart on his part! finally someone took advantage of the city and figured out a way around it, guess everyone can appy for sidewalk vending now that the doors open?

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Taurus

Keep calm! Your emotions are becoming increasingly heightened and intense today. As a result, you're likely to take things much more seriously than usual. That's wonderful if you're involved in a hot and heavy encounter with Mr or Ms Right, but it won't be such good news if you go overboard about silly trifles. If you're doing some last-minute shopping you'll want to be as extravagant as your budget allows. Or is it a case of Budget...? What budget?
