Next comes a jump in the number of people arrested for driving without a liscense. They should have their vehicles confiscated, auctioned off, and the money used for further enforcement.

This was truly a good decision. I just hope I see less fraud in the ER in the future too! Illegal immigrants use false SSI numbers when they check into the ER, it is very frustrating to deal with. We need a system similar to this one!

I am sick of all the excuses everyone uses to change our system ,lower our standard of living, take our jobs and will take OUR COUNTRY.I went to DMV for a licence renewal, was turned down because of my birth certificate, which I have used for 25 years with no problem. Costs me $52.50 to get a new one overnight. Thats BS. all because of the Latino Illegals. This is no country that would let us in and give us the run of the country. American's Wake up.

But look at the positive.....you actually had a birth certificate! All's not lost! At least things have changed for the better in your state. Give it time to work! If we have to go through a hoop or too to get rid of illegals, then we must.....

The majority of states already enforce this law, Oregon was just getting in line. I just renewed my license on Tuesday at a local DMV and it went well. The only people that seemed to not like the law was the DMV workers since they take the complains from the public when they have to provide identification they have never been asked for in the past.
Illegals need to become citizens if they want citizen rights. Work all they want, but pay some taxes for those medical services that are being destroyed by all the non-pays.
I'm all for the new law, if you don't want to be legalized then you shouldn't be in this country. I'm not anti-any race, anyone that is a legal citizen is welcome here.

Electricblue - fully agree. It is not the race or ethnicity that concerns me but the legal status of the person.

MD did the same thing - very easy to get licenses there if you were illegal for the longest time. What would then me done is illegals in VA would go to MD, fake residency there, get a MD license and then "move" to VA and transfer it.

I would love to see stats in the next year how many people get pulled over and are found driving without a license in Ore.

The medical care is federally mandated - no person shall be refused emergency medical care based on anything. This is why so many clog up ERs with sniffles. This was mandated during the Reagan administration - same as the all children will get a K-12 education regardless of immigrant status.

To clarify my position, I don't think anyone should be refused emergency medical help for obvious humanitarian reasons, but I do think that if the people are discovered to be illegally here that they should be deported immediately aftr they have recovered enough to move.

Here in Oregon the State and local police have mandates that they are NOT to arrest an illegal alien OR report that person to INS unless the person has broken another law beside the illegal entry law. It's crazy.

Its a good thing, get them off the roads and finally send the message that they need to go back to where ever they came from. I am sick of this cr@#p, it is a bold slap in the face to any one that went through the proper channels to get here and become a citizen and before anyone calls me a racist, Im not, I happen to be married to a minority (Asian). As far as Portland being a “sanctuary city”, Any\all city officials that voted for this should be arrested for aiding and abetting, along with obstruction of justice. They are helping VIOLATE FEDERAL LAW!

Solve two problems at once. Deport all illegal’s, then take all the people that have been on welfare for three decades and in some cases three generations and put them to work. Easy, your off the government handout, you have x amount of days to report to said business to start work. If you don’t report your benefits halt.

The problem with this is that they are using the ER services as a 'well clinic'...the sniffles.
EMERGENCY care does NOT mean the sniffles. it is a gross abuse of the system. MOST people would not use it this way because there would be a fee to be paid...but the people on the state roles don't care because it is all covered. Even EXCELLENT insurance has a co-pay that is steeper than a doctor office visit co-pay...which keeps most folks at bay from abusing and clogging the er.

Do you think if you move to mexico that they will bend over backwards to speck english? I was looking for a driving job this summer, since I'm a school bus driver. Do you know how hard that was, it's either I'm over quilifed, and this one gets me I DON'T SPEAK SPANISH.
