You leave out pieces of crack like bread crumbs. They will lead the criminal to the precinct where the officers will welcome them into a party with lots of snack foods. Quietly they will take them one by one to a back room for a "deal" where the floor becomes increasingly sticky and after they are in the room, feet firmly stuck on the floor, the beautiful facade drops off and they are in a cell. Simple!! |

You can't run 15-20MPH after someone because you might get hurt, but you can drve a 100 mph after someone and maybe get killed, and that's ok??? Makes perfect sense to me.

Why not? There are DIY checkouts at stores. So why not DIY jails? Make it like Mayberry, where the town drunk puts himself in jail as needed. Really, he couldn't wait to get into the jail just to get away from the nagging over his drinking. Now, if the police cannot pursue the bad people, then this opens the door wide open to vigilante justice. The cops may not be allowed to run, but the average citizen who is only a little above the criminals in terms of judgment will more than happily pursue and subdue the suspect or die trying. That is a shame when the citizens show more bravery than the cops. |

1 Yes, the feelings and nurturing thing sometimes gets in the way. If gender roles were strictly cultural as so many have been convinced to believe, then the hard demands of police work should cause a person to shed the social role nonsense and socially taught limitations. And if police or military work cannot cause the limitations to shed, then we can assume they are inborn and gender-specific. But it is not PC to say. Women don't have to feel guilty for not being able to be and do everything. I enjoy being a woman and gladly accept both my gifts and limitations and don't feel I must try to prove I am someone I am not, or someone that society wants me to be. Blunders like this are common when women are in positions of authority. We had a lady landlord who cared more about stupid stuff like how neat the yards was and had fetishes about not having bicycles on porches and stuff, while letting drug dealers and hookers take over the place. Whether a repair was good or not, she based it on appearance and how she felt, not logic, not thought, not science, and not the words of experts or the tenants who had to live with it. It took a man who didn't have excessive needs for neatness (while still making sure the hedges, trees, and grass were trimmed, there was no garbage in the yard, and that the buildings were in good repair). Durability and efficiency should be the priorities when it comes to rental property. Appearance is only important to the extent that the environment is safe, doesn't damage the tax value of adjacent properties, and doesn't draw criminals, insects, disease-bearing animals, or rodents. Or, there is the example of the female director of parks and recreations in my former town. She went to a computer dealer for a replacement monochrome monitor. He was going to sell her a new IBM compatible amber monitor for $70. Well, she insisted it couldn't work because the computer was made by IBM and he was the expert. He insured her it would and she basically called him a liar and left. She later spent $300-$400 on a refurbished IBM green screen monitor. It was not new, nor as easy on the eyes (green is one of the worst colors for the eyes to perceive, and amber provides less strain). But she had this need to feel she was right and throw her weight around, and not caring who she hurt in the process. And I admit sexism can make this situation worse, because it adds this element that women have to prove themselves and they make incompetent mistakes out of the mistaken need that they have to prove themselves or care what others think. And I have other female friends, and the way they limit themselves based on what others say is surprising. One told her kids growing up that if others offered them food that they had to turn it down or get beaten harshly when getting home. That is abuse. If someone offers you something, then it is okay to say yes. But she thought otherwise because she hung with friends who talked about people and if the kids had politely accepted, then she would be accused of not feeding them properly. It is wrong to discipline your kids based on what other people say or think. Kids are not property and do not exist as trading pawns for the parents to get attention and approval. You should raise your kids based on your own values and what is best for them. Punishment should be for doing wrong, not being inconvenient. Don't get me started! |

Well, these cops will always get their toddlers. Now, the question is how fast of walk must it be before it is a chase? And to me, chase is a loaded word. Chase means to run off. I don't want to chase away a pet or a criminal. No, I try to catch them. I could see if they argued that to their leftist wimp of a mayor. "I didn't 'chase' them, I caught them!" They would probably get the "sack" from someone who lacks one.(Yes, that was "bad.") |

Obviously some of the writers above do not think a woman should be mayor - well that's your problem. I thought we had moved on from this sex thing and what does it have to do with being a mayor. The woman made a decision and she is right to stick to it and its not up to the news reporter to tell her how to run her city. HATS OFF TO THAT TOUGH COOKIE.

I could imagine a cop saying "hey, go catch that guy for me, I got ya covered from here".
Sounds like a case over reaction. Probably got her emotions involved in this small town when someone filed a lawsuit. Either way, I can't imagine forcing the cops to enforce the law while the perps know the cops can't chase them. Those good cops we'd see speed walking behind a running perp would be laughed at. |
