He's a real jerk

He's an extremely smart man. The people who think he's a jerk are usually the ones that dont do their job to the level that he does his.

Any person who describes this man as a "jerk" is someone who settles for mediocrity. Find another job where you can relax, since obviously you are not very successful at your present position, and have no aspirations for higher achievement.

yea, the guy is a jerk. he has ruined many a career with his so-called motivation. obviously, if you support this man, you must be in fear of your job.

I've know this guy at two different papers, the second when he was top editor. The vast majority of us who have worked for him are much better journalists because of it. A few are stars because he believed in them. Anyone whose career was ruined would have self-destructed under some other editor, if the editor was the real deal... maybe faster under somebody like this who expects people to care about their professions. Most of us will take truth, toughness, humor (even wiseass) and quality over easy, mediocre and "nice." One thing I know Huff brought to the table besides setting the bar high: He protected the people who worked for him in ways they never knew about. "Ruined many a career"? Ridiculous. Broke a few eggs in the kitchen? The right thing to do.

"Ruined a career"? "Jerk"? What crybabies! Perhaps you should work for someone who holds your hand, pats you on the back and tells you what a great job you're doing...you know, much like what would be said to a child.
I guess if you don't have your own high standards, the answer is to trash someone who does.
