Teen Suicide

I was shocked and heartbroken to hear that another one of our Darke county youths took their life this week. As I look at her school picture in the obituaries of todays paper, and see the smile on her face, I wonder, what could be so horrible that this child, Sarah Whittaker, felt she had no other alternitive? When my older son attended high school, there was a boy that had commited suicide. To me this is a tradgedy! These kids need to realize that no matter what the circumstance at home, they will not be there forever.. or if its a mistake theyve made or a substance abuse problem, or whatever it is, there is help. There are answers to their problems. I think parents today need to talk to their children about this, not just once, but now and then. And the schools need to have discussions about this. Maybe, if one child is feeling hopeless and reaches out to someone, then this would be one less young person we have lost. As a community, I think we need to address this and even work together with Greenville Schools to save these children. We cant brush this under the rug. These are our children, they have got to know that there is someone to listen and that there are solutions... What a sad thing to happen

It is so sad when kids think that things were that bad that they have to take their life.

As parents, I think, we really need to listen to our kids, also, take time to talk to them and see whats on their minds. Make sure they are ok, or at least as ok as a teen can be. Teenagers tend to be very moody anyway, so I have always tried to instill in my children that you cant ever give up, there is always tomorow and that you have to fight to keep your head above the water. There is always going to be hard times and heartache, but we have to teach our children survival skills so that they can overcome the feeling of hopelessness. Its so hard to read kids, whats normal sadness and whats a danger flag..I truely feel for the parents of this child and am fulley aware that sometimes there is no way to keep these kids safe.

Suicide happens everywhere, the amount of teen suicide is actually pretty normal. In one small town in the US, there was a string of teen suicides.
I think Greenville needs to focus more on teen pregnancy than suicide. When I attended Greenville, I knew about FORTY girls pregnant! They might still be living but what kind of life will they live if they are expected to be parents when they don't even know how to live on their own? The Abstinence-only sex ed is apparently not working so why not education on safe sex since it is apparent that majority of the teens in Greenville are not going to save themselves for marriage.

well now I dont think its only the girls to blame here. Someone is getting these girls pregnant! Maybe the boys also need to learn about condoms. To act like its one focus over another is ridiculous. Though teen pregnancy is growing daily, they are about as educated as they can be. Schools are giving out birth control now. What else do you think can be done? Thers aids commercials on about every hour on one channel or another. Its obvious you are not a parent.

I knew her and it had a lot to do w/ step mom and some to do with friends. So before you judge I think you should look. Crazy step mom w/issues of her own! "Ask her"!!!! COOK COO! She "step mom stop taking her meds! I'm just saying manic is not the best dx and she wasn't taking her's. Now Sarah is dead!! There are the facts and She got her way in the room! Thank gosh she got to burn the house down too!!! Well thank you god for her. If not for you coo coo! I guess sarah would be here.

Why would Allen and new wife change her whole room and then go out of town w/in a month! Her room turned into the new office! Her mother may not be the best but I rather have her than a manic that dosen't take her meds use to be an Amish???? Ya get a choice AMISH or everyone else I guess her step mom couldn't chose! A Lt of both! Now sara is dead!

look it up w/in a month her room was turned into an office and her dad and stepmom went on a romantic vacation w/out Jacob!!!!!!!!!! Left him there alone where she dide afteer cleaning house his room step mom and dad and being grounded for 3 months.

I lost a child over a year ago to suicide, There where no signs when I left for work he was fine when I came home I found him gone, There are not always signs, after further research we found his girlfriend had broke up with him and she was aware he was going to take his life he told her, But it was not reported to anyone now hes gone and she has moved on with her life and living with someone already. Suicide is a serious thing its around us everywhere in all age we need to put a stop to it I am trying to start a suicide prevention program And those who have lost someone need to talk about it without someone judging them. I feel the pain every day.

ASK her dad and STEP MOTHER!They quickly changed her room to an office and went on vacation! Her step mother has a deeper pass then her mother! Sara didn't hang herself. Her dad Allen not either Yes sad! I love and miss her! So u need to look back and ask why maybe your son knows?

sorry for the lost it is sad,but why do you think she did not do it ?and if her daad didnt than are you saying maybe the step mom did ?i never heard of this untill today when i read it here today.did the police investage this ?why did they change her bedroom to a office ?where was the girl suppose to sleep ?please i dont mean to be nosie but the story is so sketchy that i dont understand .and my prairs will be with you .
