I have read this post. I, too, am from Washington County, Mississippi. I was born in a little town called Metcalfe, right outside of Greenville, but grew up in Chicago. Metcalfe is 98% black and I am bi-racial. I have to say having lived in Chicago as a child and returning to Greenville as an adult, I actually think Mississippi is a lot less racist then some places. I think there are subtle racist acts everywhere, but for the most part people seem to get along well here. I think in Greenville people (black and white) need to be better educated and need to have more economic opportunities. When people feel disenfranchised, they want to blame someone. In Mississippi, it's easy to pick race as the blame for problems because everyone is so color conscious. I think I have been more discriminated against by dark skinned blacks who automatically assume because I am light, well educated, and speak proper English, that I think I am better then them. Nothing could be further then the truth. To be honest, I always wished I were dark-skinned. Age is rough on light-skinned people. LOL

I don't recall ever seeing a black man wanted for rape. Rape is more a white crime, like stealing cars is often affiliated with blacks. I am not saying there aren't any black rapists, but most are white. Oh yeah, and I am from Memphis. I don't know any "hood" where you can't see at least a few white men and women walking around as boldly and confidently as they want. Final note- a white man beat his child to death in Arkansas only within the last two years and all the child did was wet his pants. Funny how we only see certain things.

Yeah James Lowe, have you read about the horrible conditions Africa is in as a result of white colonialism? Whites weren't satisfied with bringing us over here and screwing us over, they had to go to the Motherland and mess up things there. I agree that everyone should take responsibility for their own lives, own up to there mistakes, and be the chief advocate for improving themselves. However, I do not agree with looking at race and prison population in Mississippi as proof one race commits more crimes then another. I think looking at crime statistics is a better indicator. Why is it most felonies are committed by whites, yet most prisons are full of blacks? I think I see a bias. Also, why is it you can molest a child who is helpless (white crime) and get out of prison within a year, but if you sell drugs to someone (black crime) who is willing to purchase them, they lock you up and throw away the key?

While I agree that MS does indeed suck, it's due primarily to the lack of education. Idiots fear intelligence (actually, idiots fear everything, watch Foxs News for your latest dose of good ol' white fear)and subvert so much of our youth with their inane rhetoric that any chance at recovery from generations of this poison is dismal.
I have lived here all my life, unfortunately, and have the memories of idiocy and blind hatred burned into my brain. And I'm white, by the way. Irish, actually, a nationality deemed not quite slave material and not quite human either for much of the 1700-1800s. My entire family is racist at their worst and fearful at their best around blacks. Not asians, mexicans, or any other races, just blacks. Why?, I ask and I am pointed toward the nearest ghetto. Of course, continue on into the rural area and what do we see, but the white version: trailers and shotgun shacks.
Are white MSians racist? Yes, because their parents taught them to be that way. Being a white male allows me to hear the behind-the-back slurs and casually racist explanations for the behavior of other people. Most white men in MS are racist, it's true and if not, then they are so tolerant of it they may as well be.
Are black MSians racist? I say...a bit, though its due to the way the whites shit on them. And lack of education, job opportunities, faith in humanity, etc.
In the end, it's education that holds the key to ending this pointless debate on race. Because, yes, parents, you are hate spewing idiots whose children have little hope of being anything less than the same. We are the last state in any positive ranking and the first in most negative aspects of human condition (though AL does come in for a win every blue moon).
If you truly value this state you live in and want to see this mindless racism and righteous ignorance choke and die, then please support your local school district as much as possible. Its only the future of your children and the children they have to grow up with, after all.

No the only problem I see is how some people think that just because they are white, they must act white, same goes for black. So you get all these black guys who are acting all gangster and badass because that is the stereo type!

There is no such thing as race based qualities. Anyone who believes that is stupid. The divide by race and ethnicity was a conscious choice of the few and promoted to the many, to satisfy quest for power, control, and money. I just happened onto this site and not sure if I will every find it again. In reading I was shocked at the things people are saying, until I got to yours. You were raised the way I was, we are all children of God, brothers and sisters, not one color is better than the other, there is good and bad in all races, I believe more good than bad its just the bad that you hear.
