I've seen what looks like an old mill on Hwy 70 near Twain. Can anyone tell me what it was and when it closed. Just curious about it's past.
Thanks |

If I remember correctly it closed sometime between 1973-76, I was babysat by a lady who's husband was the Mill handy man...they lived on the river next to the Sawdust burning tower across from the green bull room that is still standing if I remember correct....many other memories of the train hauling in and out and the horns blasting at shift change.....thanks for reminding me of fun filled days playing their.

If I remeber right the mill closed down shortly after a traincar broke loose and ripped through the mill. I think it was closer to 1980 |

I lived in Twain from 1956 until 1969 when my family moved to Quincy. My father was a foreman at the planing mill down on the flat. The sawmill was across the river. The mill was called Feather River Lumber Company. It was owned by an outfit in Oroville. The mill was bought out in 1970 and I believe it closed then.
