So there are no drunks now? The county going wet doesn't make people drink beer. They give all the tax dollars to Ohio. Greenup is a 5th class city. Because there is no revenue. Tax dollars give the police the money to fight the "war on drugs". It's all about choice. Right now, Greenup has no choice.

It'll happen.. This blue law state wide is the best thing this county should get against alcohol... no alcohol, makes people want it even more. I shop KY only.. ABC in Ashland.. OH can take their tax money from their own. If there was to be a wet county vote. Ill vote "Yes"

There has never been a real campaign to get petitions signed, what makes it different now? How? When? I would love the chance to get involved.

The Flash wrote: That would really hurt Ironton I agree with you that would probably hurt Ironton's economy. The sale of alcohol, Rally on the River, city taxes, and a payroll tax for people that work in the city limits is about the only things that exist for them to generate any revenue for the city. Back in February the city of Greenup just recently voted on and passed into law a payroll tax that would take 1.5 percent out of every individuals check that is employed within the city limits. Mayor Lundie Meadows estimated that this would bring in $185,000 a year for the City of Greenup. I bet the revenue off of the sale from alcohol would be much more than that in a years time. How will the city of Greenup bring in any revenue if the court house moves from downtown Greenup out on the East Park Highway? Is any part of the East Park Highway considered within the city limits of Greenup? If not that will be a huge loss for their projected estimate in revenue income because of the decrease in people employed in the city limits. If the court house was to be move somewhere else the downtown area would become a ghost town because that is about the only thing left down there except for lawyers offices, a bank, funeral homes and a library. What other reason do people come to the city of Greenup for?Come on people of Greenup County and the city of Greenup. We need to get a petition going, sign it and vote for the sale of alcohol. Prohibition is a thing of the past. Now, who is with me?

I knew that the Daily Independent had reported that the city had given preliminary approval for a payroll tax at 1.5%, then later on I heard that it passed after they voted on it.

A democracy is an egalitarian form of government in which all the citizens of a nation together determine public policy, the laws and the actions of their state, requiring that all citizens (meeting certain qualifications) have an equal opportunity to express their opinion. You have your opinion, and I have mine. I to am a registered voter and I would vote yes. So my vote would cancel your vote out.

I live out in the county and I am a registered voter. If someone would start a petition, I would sign it and vote for it. My wife, three sons, and two daughters, along with their wives and husbands are also all registered voters. We have talked about this subject many times before amongst ourselves. I know that they all would sign a petition and vote for it. So there is ten signatures and votes.
