We will be moving there in about two weeks. We came up Thursday and rented a place on a hundred acre farm, outside of town, with the nearest neighbor about a mile away. This place looks like a nice place to hang out. We are older...I'm 45, my hubby is 58, so we really aren't party animals at all. We do enjoy smoking a little bud now and then, but it's not like it's a major habit. My husband has had a stroke, and it seems to help him relieve some of the effects of the stroke. I smoke it because I enjoy it. We do not drink alcohol at all and we are looking forward to finally be able to walk around in our yard without being eaten alive by fire ants. And to be able to enjoy natural bodies of water without having to worry about being eaten alive by alligators...LOL(it's true, they have a lot of both here in southeast alabama). Maybe we will run into each other in future.

To whomever it is that's moving here to this "friendly" community - let me just tell ya, I'm not from here either but moved here for the same reason you are. But all these nice, friendly folks you see waving at ya as you pass on the road, and chat with politely at the store, and invite you to go to their church are the very ones who get on here and bad-mouth you as soon as they can get to their computer! Everyone knows who you are, where you live, who you live with, what's in your garbage cans on the street and what you had for dinner last night... I've never met more judgmental and self-rightious people in one place in all my 57 years.

I've never met more judgmental and self-rightious people in one place in all my 57 years. You've obviously never lived in southeast Alabama...LOL. I guess all small towns everywhere are like that. We are just simple folks...don't plan on spending a lot of time in town, and neither one of us go to church. Where we are living, there is no neighbors around to even see our garbage cans, and we live with our six cats. I could care less what people say about us. I have a feeling it's gonna be a long time before anyone even notices that we're up there. All I know is that there's no fire ants, no alligators, and no Alabamians...those are definitely BIG plusses for the Greensburg community. I'm looking forward to being able to grow a garden, and harvest it, without being eaten alive by fire ants. Unless you've ever had to deal with them, you don't understand how important that one fact is. I'm sorry you've had such a bad experience up there. Try moving a town or two over, and don't deal with the people. Just go about your business, and for cryin' out loud, stay out of the churches. Everyone knows small town churches are hotbeds for gossip and bullshit. Buy a piece of property and stay on it. Build your own church outside for you and your family to worship in. I'm not a Christian, nor any religion. I celebrate the Earth and all that she gives us. Living humans can never tell me what comes in the after life, or convince me that a guy a couple thousand years ago died for "my sins". I wasn't around back then. It has nothing to do with me. I am responsible for how I treat others and how I treat the gift of this Planet and the lessor creatures. No one can take that responsibility from me. I gladly accept it. I'll let you know when we get moved up there. Maybe we can hang out on the farm. We are old hippies, or at least I am. My husband is a disabled Veteran of the Air Force...he was a firefighter in the Air Force, and also a civil service fire fighter for 18 years. He's not quite as much of a hippie as I am, but we are both pretty mellow and easy to get along with. If you are a fan of the Grateful Dead, love the outdoors, camping and fishing and such, you and I will get a long famously. I invite anyone in town to simply come introduce themselves to us if they see us in town. I know I am so looking forward to looking around in all those cool looking shops and historical buildings as I am a history buff, and love old architecture. It's nice to see a town that cares so much for it's heritage and it's history. Blessed Be.

I welcome you and would so very much like to meet people like you and your husband! We are not "old hippies"... we are mid 30's - but hippies just the same! We too are earthly and I can tell you and I could be great friends! I think I am as excited as I've ever been about anything regarding this town to know that good people like you are coming! BB

I'm hoping that we aren't arriving too late for me to plant a few potato plants...I haven't had home grown potato's in years...since moving to Alabama...If you try to grow anything underground like that the fire ants MAKE THEIR HOME IN THEM. Potato's carrots beets radishes...the fire ants get them, and then get you when you try to harvest it. I found that out the hard way the first time I tried to harvest a crop of potato's. The plants were beautiful, but as soon as I reached my hand in to grab a tater, well, I came out with my hand covered with fire ants and ended having to go to the e.r. to get some kind of stuff on my hands cos of the hundreds of bites. Well maybe not hundreds but it seems like it. I still have scars on my hands from that!! We are in mid pack right now. We'll get back to you when we get up there...where is there a nice little diner, restaurant type of place in town? I saw the China King, but I'm not moving up there to eat in a place I could eat in down here in the Dirty South.

I've never tried to grow potatos...now tomatoes are where its at for me! Big Boys; nice meaty ones! There is a new little place in town just across the street from the china place [save yourself the heartburn and indegestion there]. It's called Josephines, but we haven't had the chance to try it out yet. Look forward to hearing from you when you get here!

Well, we've been here a year now, and so far, no problems with anyone. EVERYONE to a person has been wonderful to us. I am still just as in love with this place as I was when we first came here. I have harvested my first crop of potato's, and WOW were they delicious cooked on the grill with our steaks! MMMMMM I was sad to see that Josephine's didn't make it...we were looking forward to eating there...we have however eaten at the China King place, and it was awesome...don't know why someone would say it's not...the food was fresh and hot, and the staff was awesome, too. We have not tried the new coffee house yet or the Kentucky Headhunters place...but we will get to them... As to the city officials taking your money, well, you folks need to vote in your local elections...that's the only way to fix that problem...if you don't vote in your local elections, then you should really shut your mouth and accept who others have voted in. Local elections are really the only time your vote REALLY counts. If you don't vote, don't complain about how the town is run, because you made it none of your business. Voting is a RESPONSIBILITY, not just a right!!! We moved from our hundred acre farm, and now live just this side of the Hart Co. line near Macedonia church on a little dead end road....again, very few neighbors, all about a quarter mile away...just love it. I sit outside at night with a fire in my fire pit and listen to the wildlife until the wee hours of the morning..."Life is hard for the little things..."(a line from "Night of the Hunter", with Robert Mitchum)...I hear them being taken almost nightly...everything's gotta eat I guess...I have a little raccoon that comes a visits me nightly, as well as a pair of opossums...sooo cute...Of course I try to discourage the raccoon because I worry a little about rabies, but it's hard to chase little "Rocky" off...and my cats do not seem to mind him or the opossums...lol...they all eat out of the same dishes...lol...."Rocky " has been coming here for about 3 months now...he's just a baby still I think...kinda small...with his little mask on...very cute...There is a bigger one that shows up once in awhile...maybe "Rocky's" mother? She's big and fat, and has a white face, as opposed to a masked face...she's pretty, but not as cute as little "Rocky". Wish I could have found him when he was a kitten...I'd love to have a pet raccoon...lol... Anyway...my feelings towards my new hometown have not changed and I wouldn't want to live any place else, ever.
