People who live in our mobile home parks do not have the money to live elsewhere. Many are being financially assisted to pay rent and have food. Do you think they like the conditions? If new mobile homes were available they couldn't afford them. Not all of the people who live there add to the deplorable conditions. Most try to do the best they can with what they have. The owners of the parks aren't getting wealthy on the rent income. They are just providing these people with some form of housing. Many get behind on their rent and utilities and the owners are lenient and sympathetic to their financial issues.

Putting yourself in there situation how would you survive? The idea scares me.

From an outward perception I understand your comment. Having been in that financial situation and working with people who are currently in need, your perception is incorrect. Many of these people have physical and emtional disabilities that keep them from being gainfully employed. A little compassion goes a long way, especially during the Christmas season.

all this is true but dang how much does it cost to put your shoes on go outside and clean up the yard? and for the land lord they should take that $$$ and spend it on some clean up . like i said you can be poor and not live like a piggy .and the government spends more $$$ on things that don't amount to diddley than they do on the needy

Intelligence is free...what's your excuse?

There are some good people that live out there just trying to make ends meet. A $70 water bill can be a lot to many people.

Be thankful for what you have and be less condescending of those with less. Or go out there and leave a packet under someone's doorstep with some cash in it to help them out over the holidays. You mentioned they were poor LoverBOY.

Some people must of never been in the position where you have to decide if you wanted to take a shower and use gas and water or eat the next day.

me oh my, you make good choices. But not everyone is so lucky to make good choices or have a good support network.

Our water bill goes up $30-40 when the boys are home vs when they are not, and some people don't have that $30-$40.

I am not saying there are not people that make bad decisions, and if people choose cigarette, drugs, alcohol etc. over food and bathing, that is a bad choice. Laziness is also a bad choice.

Cleanliness is next to godliness my mom used to say, and when we were kids we took a bath once a week in a tub of warm water (water was warmed on the stove), and it sucked to be the last one. Daily bathing was with a wash-clothe and a wash basin.

I just try not to generalize and judge people unless I know them personally and have walked in their shoes.

If you have proof some of these people in Vista Village are just lazy and sitting on their dead asses, fine, you have more and better information than I have.

Oh, yeah. Some people are also just culturally different than we are. Dental hygiene was not a big deal to my parents, and I have paid for that my entire life. Wish I had parents that stressed brushing three times a day, rather than stressing chores.

Peace.

It's not just Vista Village.

You can drive around town and see little junk yards everywhere.

We have one right up the street.

Empty homes, rental property and trash all over.

In some cases its the banks and real estate companies that are lazy or not willing to spend a dime.

Who is responsibile to clean up when a house is forclosed on or a tenet moves out and leave trash all over, TV's on the side of the road, etc?

So let's clean up town!

All the trailer parks burn to the ground over the holidays.

That will solve all the problems.

Yep.

There is not one block in town you can drive down that does not have at least one lot with a building that has trash, debris, etc. on it.

It's not just the trailer parks.

Go behind some of the buildings downtown, it is a mess. When are those building owners going to be held responsible for dumpsters flowing over, etc?

You are not the only one that has formally complained.

Progress is slow, but there is progress.

This year the ordinance was passed on the unkempt property. Grass can't grow a foot high anymore without anyone taking care of it. Banks and Realtor's actually have to start maintaining vacant property or the city comes in and mows it and bills them for it.

Still people continue to challenge the system.

I have gone around and picked up trash in our neighborhood before. But abandoned electronics, appliances, TV's - if we pick them up we have to pay to get rid of them.

The city sanitation department is not supposed to take them. They can't be dumped in the landfill according to what I was told.

Here is something I wonder about. Why hasn't Indiana enacted deposit legislation on cans and bottles? Many other states have the laws, and charge a deposit on bottles and cans, typically $0.05 -$.07 each.

So you pay $0.30 more for a six pack of Diet Pepsi at the store, but when when the bottles are empty you turn them back in for recycling and get your $0.30 back.

Also a lot of people pickup and collect the cans and bottles, so there are a lot less of them on lawns and the side of the road.

IDK.
