Guilford First-Responders Still Not Vaccinated Against H1N1

Full story: Fox 8 WGHP

Despite being considered a high-risk group, rescue workers in Guilford County have not yet received the H1N1 vaccine due to a nationwide shortage and the county's decision to give available doses to school-age children.

I think that the EMS workers should also
get the vaccine because they work very
closely with accident victims and also
have to respond to calls at peoples homes,
so I think it would be in their best interest
to take the H1N1 vaccine.

They should be some of the first to have the vaccine available to them. They put their lives on the line to save others. Why would we not do what we need to do to ensure their safety by making sure that they are vaccinated.

As a retired paramedic, I believe I'm in a much better position to evaluate the importance
of 1st responder, EMS and Greensboro Firefighters, receiving the vaccine at the earliest
possible moment than the County Health Director. To compare the use of a fire hose to the receipt of the vaccine is utterly ludicrous. It's a little suspicious that Alamance County 1st responders have already received theirs and Forsyth County will receive theirs
before the end of the week. What gives, Dr.????

Don't worry Guilford County you are not alone. Moses Cones Critical Care Transport Teams have not recived it. Rockingham County fire dept. and rescue squad personal have not gotten it and there has been no plan set in place for them to get it. It appears that EMS, Fire and Rescue Squad responders have been left out! What a nice way to pay them back for their hard work in our communities.

I was diagnosed with H1N1 yesterday and believe me when I say that you WANT this people to stay healthy and well. I am rendered pretty much helpless and know what a sad state of affairs it will be if the people that help take care of us get this and CANT help us. This virus is horrible. We NEED healthy people on our side. Please immunize them.

How about teachers, should they not be the first to get vaccinated? They deal with young children who come to school sick.

This people come help my family and if anyone should get this shot it should be them and each city should pick up the tab for all these and firefighters shots. They deserve for us to give back when they are always there in our hour of need.

If they want the vaccine they should be first in line to get the shot as soon as they are available. The Public Health Director doesn't care about their safety, all he cares about is spouting the county's mantra and keeping his job.

As a career firefighter here, I think all ems and fire personnel should be vaccinated. Look at it this way--fire and ems workers are the very FIRST people to be called when most people are sick. This group of people not only has a high probability of contact with persons infected, but are 100% going to be in contact with the virus. Putting ems and fire personnel behind some of the other groups receiving the virus is not working so well if you look at how many are out of work here in just Guilford County.

Its crazy that we are in short panic over this. We can only do so much so fast but giving children first priority I believe is best there immune system isn't as strong as adults. Also giving it to the children helps the spread to their parents. I do hope that the workers get their vaccine but in their training they are trained on saftey in these situations vaccinated or not.

i THINK THAT THE HEALTH CARE WORKERS SHOULD BE THE FIRST TO GET THE VACCINE. THE EMS WORKERS AND THE FIRST RESPONDERS SHOULD BE FIRST IN LINE. HOW CAN THEY TAKE CARE OF THEIR PATIENTS IF THEY ARE SICK ALSO.....

Its funny to me that all these people want the vaccine. Please look at the cdc website yourself or google the vaccine ingredients and see whats in it and possible side affects. The vaccine isn't likely to save your life and the risks of the vaccine outweigh the benefit. People should be eating plenty of organic vegetables and taking colloidal silver, you'll be fine.

AMEN JACK! People are such Lemmings! They trust authority to the point of insanity!. They must be ignorant of the complete history concerning these vaccines. I've read the ingredients as well as many studies on the "studies" and this stuff is poison. It may not give immediate harm but it is more than likely toxic in the long run. Vaccines in general shouls be looked at with an extremely critical eye Congrats Jack! Most people automatically "go with the herd".

This is totally crazy as first responders they should be the first to be vacinated. The ones that made this decision were probably the first to be vacinated. If I was in need of help I wouldnt want an EMS worker that could be infected with the HIN1 coming to my aide. Get a clue people and take care of your health providers first so the rest of us will be healthy.

So lets see, you are trying to convince me that you are smarter than the CDC--and that organic veggies are the secret trick to staying healthy?? I doubt that the veggies are going to keep me protected very well when I come into your home to help you because you have H1N1. The vaccine truly may not save the persons life who takes it, but it may reduce the spread of h1n1 throughout the population---just something for you to think about.

Look at legitimate information sources--this stuff is not poison and is not toxic. You are very well misinformed and lacking some common sense here. Yes most people do go with the herd---do some research or just some quick thinking about which is stronger...a herd or a single animal. You will find that a herd will withstand much more than one single animal(if herds were not stronger then animals and people alike would just be loners).

Jack is right h1n1a. After looking at the cdc website (http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/vaccination/vaccin... ) at the bottom it says "Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is a rare disease in which the body damages its own nerve cells, causing muscle weakness and sometimes paralysis" is possible after taking it. Soooo let me get this straight. The vaccine wont keep me from getting it (just make it less likely), it wont save my life but i'm giong to risk paralysis for it? No thank you.
