I am from a small town in Kentucky similiar size wise to Madison County. I am wondering if Madison County is a nice place to live and raise a children? I have never been there but I find the pictures of the town and the bridges on the internet charming. How is the job market there for nurses? Is Real estate high? I am toying with the idea of relocating there.

I would think twice about it. The Winterset cops recently refused to help a woman involved in a domestic abuse situation, and the abuser stabbed and killed her, eventhough she had called the cops and she had a restraining order on him. You simply are not safe in Winterset if you are a woman. I would not live there if they paid me to.

That is bad. Surely there had to be some extenuating circumstances? I am from a small town in Kentucky where nearly everybody is a drug addict and your property, your being, nothing is truly safe here. I guess it is the same everywhere?

Although it's true that we had a woman killed here by her ex, there WERE extenuating circumstances in that case which I will not go into right now.
To answer your questions from your first post, Nurse00,...
1)Madison county is a beautiful place to live as there is little congestion and lots of open space. Also a wonderful place to raise children (I'm raising two myself). There is plenty for them to do both in school and during the summer months.
2)Job market for nurses IN madison county can be touch and go but Des Moines isn't too far of a drive and there are a few different hospitals there plus numerous clinics and offices that might be looking for help. Madison county DOES have a hospital and various offices, though, that you can try to get into.
3)Real estate, in comparison to many other areas, is lower and taxes aren't too bad here. I'm actually not angry when my tax bill comes due...not to mention the school district is pretty good so I don't mind paying for it!

Winterset is a quaint town that is for sure. However; unless you are already in the "clique" (yes it is still small enough to have a clique) then you are pretty much out in the cold.
Taxes are not reasonable they are actually the opposite EXTREMELY high and raising every chance they get. There is no job market in madison county, there are a few underpaying jobs such as nursing homes/ the Hospital. You will find that they pay far under what nearby Waukee and Des Moines does.
It isn't all bad though, fairly quiet town. Then again that can be part of the issue. There is only one Grocery store (Fareway) and one major department store (Pamida) Both are WAY over priced but I do my shopping in Indianola or des moines for the most part due to the prices. I have actually found some toys were $20.00 higher at Pamida than Indianola WalMart.

Daily Horoscope for January 6

Libra

Don't hold anything in, especially an emotional burden. The only way to drown the past is to open the floodgates. If you've got something to say, come right out and say it. The only people who might be offended by your honesty don't really matter in the grand scheme of things anyway, Libra. Great changes flow smoothly through your day. When you take charge, everyone feels at home.
