Take your orange and white Ribbons and shove them up your asses!!!!! The city needs to take these down! what a joke, this is Creston at its finest moment! If it is on your private property that's fine if you want to support these two idiots, but when it becomes city property which I pay taxes for I HAVE A HUGE PROBLEM WITH THIS!!!!!

Why would you be shocked. Even the local Sheriffs department have supported the two felons, and openly so.
What does that tell you, that even they do not believe in the justice system, one they are to protect and serve.
What a little Payton Place.
The citizens of the Community really need to vote out some of your elected officials.
What a disgrace.
I do not believe they can not hang anything on city or county owned property. That is something that should be brought to the County and City Officials attention.
Your community to start it's own reality show.

I had heard that the friends of the convicted felons were going to hang ribbons in support of the two charged with rape.
Do you all feel safe there, I would'nt, and I'm sure the victim does NOT..........
Harrassement....intimidation.. ........
OH>>that describes the felons, the friends must be just like them, birds of a feather flock together..........

Agreed. This is absolutely ridiculous. And people here wonder why we won't post our real names. I guess it's time to start hanging purple ribbons! If we started a reality show here, it would have to run 24 hours a day, it would be the most popular show on tv. LOOK AT THOSE REDNECK HILLBILLIES IN CRESTON!

The town and it's leaders are a joke.
And many from surrounding towns have some choice descriptive words they are using.
1.First you have a teacher who is charged with shopplifting, and the district continues to employ him
2. a special ed teacher and coach arrested for porn
3.the city gets sued for a letter of understanding
4.the two highest officers of the law convicted of rape
5.police officers using tasers on the sick and helpless
6.a board member for the county charged with disorderly conduct
Whats next...orange ribbons in support of the rapists..........and shaved heads

I agree with you but it makes it really hard to live here. I understand they are entitled to their opinion but so am I and why do they feel they need to make a show of this. Some of these people have jobs that depend on this community, apparently they don't care of the negative implications it could have on their so called careers. I believe in supporting your friends but they were convicted...the end!

Some wonderful man called our crisis hotline last night to let us know about this ribbon campaign. So around 11 pm last night I drove around the downtown area armed with a flashlight and a pair of scissors, ready to cut down all offending fabric not on private property. Needless to say I thought better of this plan and called the Mayor instead.

The ribbons which are tied to lamp posts, telephone poles, road signs and anything (including trees) that are on the terrace (the piece of yard between the sidewalk and the street) will be taken down today. I have also asked him to make some type of statement. I believe he will do this also.

Just so you know, if you wish to put any type of ribbon up on your own property, it should be a teal ribbon. Teal is the color for sexual assault.

I get it that the family and friends are hurting. I personally can allow them a bit of lattitude because of this. But, this is way out of line.

I have never heard of people putting up ribbons to wait for convicted rapists to return home. Most communities are trying to ehance the 2000 foot rule to keep certain types of sex offenders contained.

This is really an outrage. I think it speaks to a sense of entitlement that is felt by those responsible. Scary isn't it?
rest assured

The orange and white ribbons for the convicted felons are GONE in my neighborhood. It may take a while for this to catch on, and the meaning behind them, but I believe that Creston is ready to put these 2 low-lives behind us and forget about them for 25 (or 17 1/2) years or so. I will continue to take down any ribbons that I see. It is just as much my right to take them down as it is for someone else to put them up, right?

I just hope their children weren't involved in putting up these ribbons. Because if they were, and now they are being taken down, it will be like losing their dads all over AGAIN!!! Unfortunately these guys are gone, focus on the kids left behind!

I do hope the Mayor does make a public statement, this needs to end.
The group that support these felons, are looking like a cult bordering on terrorism.
Where do you get teal ribbons, as I and many that I know would be proud to hang them on our own property.

What a disgrace to our community this ribbon campaign is! Our city officials had better step up to the plate and do something about it. It's time for our new chief of police to show his stripes. We already know that the sheriff is a convict lover and needs to go. I hope that these "klan tactics" will not be tolerated in our community. If I see any sign of this in any local business I will boycott that business and encourage all my friends to do so as well. Can your business stand a boycott in the current economic market place? The rapists are convicted and incarcerated........GET OVER IT! I'd like to say Creston is a safer place but it looks like we've got a little more house cleaning to do.

I heard that two professionals who were offered jobs here , turned them down because of all the bad publicity.
I wonder if it is because of the Sheriffs department, after all he supports the rapists and who would feel safe with that kind of mentality in charge.
This is very bad for Creston as a whole.

They were placed around the Rural Iowa Crisis Center and up and down the victim's street, clearly meant to be taken as a threat. The "good ol' boy's" obviously think they're above the law as did their rapist buddies and look what happened to them. I hope the good people of this community (and I believe there are many) need to stand up to these hooligans' terrorist tactics and say, "Enough!". If we let these low life, bottom feeders run our town then I guess we'll get waht we deserve.
