My husband has been offered a job in Greenville, TN and we are researching before we decide to move to the area from another state. The Topix forum in our city is a great place to find local information on most anything: schools, community happenings, housing, and etc. There are negative comments, but even so, they are in good taste and almost always based on personal experience. I thought I would check out Greenville for some insight. OMG--it is nothing but a gossip, slandering, smut filled topic after another. I was blown away at the rudeness, the profanity, lack of grammar/writing skills, and down right hatefulness of the topics and discussions. I am all for opinions and expressing them, but flat out slander and intentional and hurtful comments while not even revealing who you are typing--is this the type of community you wish for people to see? I can only imagine the comments and responses I may receive from my post based on just the 30-45 minutes I have read on others. I am guessing most may even say-stay away, we don't want you here, and worse. I will say I did read some nice posts by people (very few and on random discussions) and it was even those posts that where almost always bashed by someone else. Very sad really. I am originally from E TN and have tried to get my husband to look for opportunities in the area for several years. I had always heard such great things about the school system, the area, just a "great small town to raise a family". I am sure it is just that, but to get on a popular public site based on a community and see what is on here certainly is a shame. I just hope our visit this weekend proves otherwise.

I'm there with ya', my dear. You can't seem to even ask a question as simple as 'where is the beat place to eat in town?' Without someone jumping in and running their mouths. I rarely check the site but felt in the mood to tonight.

Truth is, this is how Greene County and Greeneville really is.

Its overwhelmed with druggies, pill heads and jobless welfare lovers. The people in this town think everyone owes them something and think they are royalty. I suggest looking into Washington County for employment and living.

Greene county is over run by scandal, a poor education system and corruption. The roadways are horribly maintained and there are no decent medical facilities unless you go out of county. If you find the Greeneville Topix horrid, then you will be welcomed in Washington County. No new businesses are willing to locate in Greene County for a good reason, People and their attitude. A company I work for in another county will try to avoid hiring Greene County people, the attitudes, morals and education just isnt htere,

I think the best thing to do is judge Greeneville on your own personal experience rather than what you read on a public forum. From your post, I gather this is your plan of action. In all honesty, the residence of this small town either like it here or they're stuck here.
I happen to like it here. I also happen to like Greeneville Topix. I don't like how some people feel the need to call people out by name but I choose to ignore most of those threads. However, I find this forum to be quite entertaining. Perhaps you won't cross paths with any of us and our shameful ways during your visit. I truly hope it all works out for you.

Don't let them get you down. The squeaky wheels always get the grease. The news always airs the bad news first. Most folks in Greene county are, for the most part honest and hard working folks with good intentions and I truly love it here. Being born and raised here I am a bit biased but I have traveled a little and always glad to get back home where people still wave at you on a country road, or say hey or how ya doing when you meet up with them. You know I'll just bet you one of those people you are railing against might just help you one day along the road if you break down or have a flat. Don't judge us all by a few posts on a web site that is mostly just for entertainment anyway.

There are good people and good communities within Greene County but there isn't much to do... Creating boredom and with that, drama. the best way to avoid it is to move into a rural area where you don't have many meddling neighbors and, stay off Topix... Because this is all you're going to find here. There are plenty of areas out side of the city itself that you may fair well in. Good luck.!

Someone lied... Probably the genius that graduated from one of our top notch schools. As for a "great small town", maybe 30 years ago.

It's really not so bad. Personally I feel this site is to shoot the shit and be silly at the end of the day. It's nothing to take seriously. Sure when I'm in a bad mood, I can get a little sassy but mainly I just like to dick around. The place is nothing like this site so slow your roll. Visit, look around and talk to some locals at a store. You may be supposed at what you can find :)

Instead of chiding the Topix regulars Relocating, you might want to keep your smug judgmental self where you are... just saying. Between the pillbillys, welfare cheats and self-aggrandizing fools running our town and county... normal folk can't take much more.

I have to go with Se7en and Blue Cadaver on this one. Topix is NOT the place to go to find out about any town. It is a place to shoot the breeze and be silly. Avoid the threads that mention names. You can bet they'll all be slanderous. Frankly, I'm surprised that anyone with one iota of intelligence would think they could judge an entire town and county through 30-40 minutes on a notorious website. That's like visiting the jail to gauge the churches. Go to Facebook and check out My Greeneville. People are not anonymous there and I think you'll get a better feel for the town. And stop coloring all of us with one crayon. Please. Duh.

Sadly I was told to read this thread. I agree to infinity that the evolution of Greeneville's topix page is the devolution of society here. To me, The normal posters on these threads are no better than the pill heads and Imbred trash that lingers in this county. These types of people are the main reason for the "no jobs" problem

As far as schools, the problem in Greene county / Greeneville is the lack of mature and educated parents. Ohhhhhhhh the stories I can tell.

When u see a kid with a problem, look at the parents. The apple NEVER falls far from the tree.
