Why is is that I can spend my money in the city of greeneville and my child can utilize of the school programs. Its not like we have a choice. The business are in the city. We can shop and spend all day long and in the end our county schools dont get %*#* for the spending we do. Our kids are denied so many things in the county school system. Maybe I will go shop in another town.

A city is reconized by the state to receive extra tax money for things such as schools. also buisnesses have to have sewers to operate and sewers are paid by city land taxes to build. Mosheim wanted a sewer with no city land taxes and now with deaths involved the sewer there had a 15% increase in bills that were already 3 times higher than Greeneville.
Greeneville Pays half for water and sewer and has free trash pick-up, the savings in just these three would pay for the city land tax. ask to be annex into the city and receive a better education for your children too.
Most say ("I don't want to pay a city land tax. I want to haul off my own trash or pay $30 a month pick up fee and I love paying 2 to 4 times more for sewer and twice the water bill. I like my children getting a lesser education then the city kids. and thank the lucky stars I am doing all this to not pay a land tax !!") Smart!

I dont think I said anything about "Mosheim". And that is not where I live. You shouldnt just "ASSUME" so many things. If that is what you are doing to not pay a land tax, then that is your business and I really dont care. But dont ASSUME it about anyone else. My childs education is number 1 to me. You sure didnt assume that did you? You should really support children and education, not work against them. Especially if that is your job!! Its people like you that bring down cities and school systems.
And that kind of thinking is tearing our society down. Sounds like bullying to me.
Have a nice day!!

Doodlebop, if you go to say Knoxville and spend money, do you benefit from any of the programs the City of Knoxville has? I think that was Jim's point.

I am building up the city school system; they have the tax base to accelerate. There are two colleges here in Greene County and yet our children are leaving for a better education in other states and U.T and E.T.S.U.
Greeneville needs to annex to raise the resident count above this 15,000 or 17,000 numbers; Greene County is 60,000- something strong. If Greeneville annex and built her resident count double then there would be nice places to eat like “Chick Fillet” and others who look at city resident count alone to build. We don’t want a city land tax because it would mean nicer places to eat and shop! We can drive to Johnson City for that, the gas cost savings would pay for my land tax and the sales tax generated locally would help schools but at least I’m not paying a city land tax “Thank Goodness”! But then again that does make me guilty of the poor education problem doesn’t it. Well I grew up on this “WELL LEARNT” education of saving $45.00 a month on city land tax. Yeah for ME! I am just as smart of a guy as my PAP PAW!
I made it on a dime and so can you and your kids. Say Heck No to city land taxes and annexation! Be a true Greene-Contains!

The school system here is a 2 tier system, the "haves" Greeneville city and "have nots" Greene County. It was brought up some years ago to pattern the system like Morristown and combine city and county schools into one system. Greene County has a lot of area and it wouldn't be an easy task. However, you would eliminate one school superintendent immediately. Anyway, I make it a point to buy gas and whatever else I can outside the city limits.
