Ball is important I agree. It is the bridge of generations. Parents and grandparents participate and have something in common with the youngsters. It does touch a lot of lives. It also promotes friendly competition among adult payers. However, it appears that some of us are getting a little too passionate about it. Our local businesses are in serious financial trouble. At what point does it’s importance diminish. Our ball programs should be used to train our boys and girls in good sportsmanship and teach them what life’s all about-- discipline and respect of fellow man. We should be moving on to another chapter in our community. We must figure out how to promote Greeneville and find jobs for the citizens. I agree with several others this issue is dead.

There is not any thing to win. A few people wanted to move a few workers around from department to department and is seems to not be a thing to do at this time. Who cares? This is not a issue it is a whinny bunch of junk about a few workers. There is too much to do in greeneville to keep a single item going and going and going. The whinners are looking dumb really dumb.

I personally think that Butch Patterson does a great job at the Parks & Rec. Nobody pats him on the back for the extra time that he gives when he could be spending time with his family. Or maybe he should stop @ 5:00 like other people do, but people would gripe about that also, right? The saying "Walk a mile in someone elses shoes" goes into effect here. It is easy to sit back and judge when you are not in the position that he is in. If people are so concerned about how things are run, then ask what YOU can do to help. If you are so dang worried about the concessions, then there again, ask what you can do to help.

He has closed most of his concessions so it wouldn't even make a difference to try to help because help is not needed. All Butch has to do is concessions and he closed most of them. He bought half as much food this year and if his budget was not cut then what will he do with the extra money he didn't spend on food? The last Rec director was fired for the exact same actions just a few years ago.

Concessions where ran all fall. The only time they were not was early spring when he didn't have any help stocking them. May on they where all running including the pools. Butch has been here over 10 years. Are you accusing him of something if so be somebody and call him.

There is no way all the concessions were open, why would so many people be fussing they had to eat at "Wendys" so much this year instead of the park concessions? Oh yeah they were open once to sell water olny, BIG DEAL. My child gets enough water from their sweat. Sir/ Mam, your calling a whole lot of parents Liars, be very careful because we have let this pass but if you DON"T want us to show up to the next meetings to defend our truth, then SHUT UP !

We told Butchie he was selling only water and he said he was out of money already this year and couldn't but food to stock the concessions! I seen in statements over the past 5 years, Butch used his capitol spending money to balance his budget. Butch could have used his capitol spending money again this year! Butch never mentioned and need for more concession food money at the Greeneville Budget meetings. Did he forget he wasn't selling food and needed more money? Why doesn't Butch talk to his Park Board Group about any of this? Bring his men workers back? "Heck" he can't even sell food! Park Board, Buy Butch some snacks so he can sell more food! I guess the Park Board hasn't meet to discuss Butch's needs since last year because THE CONCESSIONS HAVE BEEN CLOSED! Except for one or two that he personally hangs out at.

Seems to me from your posts that all you are interested in is food. They have support groups for that, you might want to try one.

If you go and look at the attachments to the Mayor's memo you will see how terrible a job Patterson has done as director of Parks and Rec. How did more work get done and COST LESS this year with Public Works calling the shots? One highlight I really loved: "More work done at more places during 2008-09 year by combined crews under new management. Many more capital projects completed than in previous year. Nine projects completed in 2007-08. Eighty-two projects completed in 2008-09; an improvement of 911 percent. http://www.greenevillesun.com/story/306540 Wake up people!

If Patterson is such a bad director, then why not replace him? Instead of trying to drive him out of his position. Department heads serve at the behest of the Board of Mayor and Alderman. It seems to me that since the Mayor was elected she has been on a witch hunt against Patterson. If he has done such a poor job managing his Department the it could be documented and he could be fired and replaced with someone who will run it better! Instead of playing games. The controvery is not over whether it was a good decision or not, but that it was done without consideration or input from the elect Board of Aldermen. Which is contrary to the Town Charter. The Charter was established to set rules of how the Town Government operates. Similar to the Constitution. If it is not going to be followed, then why even have it? And as far as capital projects are concerned, with the shrinking economy and budget concerns, is now the Best time for Capital Projects? While cutting budgets everywhere else?

You didn't read the attachments did you? The bad job is documented in there. Build the case then get rig of him.
Capitol projects are part of the rec budget every year. Every year Patterson has taken the money requested for capitol budgets and shifted it to pay overtime for 'Them Boys' who he couldn't or wouldn't manage properly.
Capitol projects can mean anything from buying equipment to repairing buildings, painting, fixing playground equipment, etc. These are essential functions of Parks and Rec that they just weren't doing under Patterson because of piss poor management.
Mayor King has shown that taxpayer dollars are being wasted wholesale at parks and rec. Maybe someone who goes by 'Taxpayer' would take more interest in what they are paying for.
Read the charter. The Mayor has and operated within the charter and got things done. Unlike Daniels, Webster, or Jim Warner. Why the big fuss over the charter when none of them have been following it all along? Hawk doesn't know how to read. Come to think of it, what good has Daniels done for Greeneville? If someone could answer that I would be shocked.
