I would never support a person who doesn't have a ninth grade education to run a city. The man can't do basic math, read, or write well. I worked for the city for 3 years under him and left because of his poor leadership skills. You want to know who runs the city? Tommy M. does, every decision Billy Wilson makes he has to run by Tommy to see if it's a good one or not.

Furthermore, Wilson is extremely unethical...shortly after winning his election, he weaseled his way into the fire chief's position. Despite the fact that he is hardly qualified to be a firefighter in the first place, both from an educational and a health related aspect. His poor leadership decisions constantly put the firefighters and citizens at risk. Wilson has banned Paramedics and EMT's (a higher level medical training than his) from practicing advanced life saving skills on his department, so that he can further showboat and run his campaign through the fire department. Come election season, it is not a rare occurance to hear Wilson's pager go off for a call and hear him say jokingly "Well, I have to go make this campaign stop." Wilson has consistently taken emphasis away from letting his firefighters get better/advanced life saving training to preform their jobs more efficiently and safely. He puts firefighters on the roads for his Toys for Tots drives during the winter, and doesn't allow them to make calls either, keeping help from getting to the sick and injured.

Wilson is a product of an uninformed public and "good ol boy" local politics, it's sad because the city and citizens could have so much more!

Dave,
You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. First off, not sure about you but I learned to read, write, and count well before high school. I have no interest in his education as I know plenty of people with "book smarts" and no common sense. Tommy is also a city employee and friend of the mayor. Who wouldn't run some decisions by someone who knows many of the citizens and has an idea of their values, in order to make a well-informed decision? However, he is perfectly capable of making decisions for citizens after listening to their opinions and needs.
Also, for the record, Mayor was offered the fire chief job before he was elected as mayor. Way to get those facts messed up, pal. He has been a firefighter for over 35 years and has saved more lives than you imagine. You should really know facts and not just set out to destroy reputations before you run your mouth. Maybe when one of your family members is saved by Mayor Wilson, you'll see what really matters. Furthermore, he saves the city a huge sum of money by being volunteer chief. I laughed outloud at the comment about running calls in election season. He goes on every medical and fire call, arriving live-saving minutes before anyone else. He makes way more calls than any other firefighter or paid chiefs from the past.
As far as Toys for Tots, I take it you've been fortunate to not need the assistance with your own family , but I'm sure those who have received that help appreciate his devotion. He doesn't make anyone work roadblocks, it is volunteer and those on the roadblocks leave to go on calls. If you knew anything, you'd know regardless of education or anything else, his focus is on helping citizens. While you've apparently never needed his financial or medical help, shut your mouth and be grateful for those who have.

...Continued.

Two of the firefighters were talking about how 3 years ago they were supposed to be in a vehicle rescue class on a Saturday and Wilson came in to pull them out so they could help with his roadblocks, rather than to train to help their community. How about this for priorities? While working for the city, I actually helped out on a couple of Saturdays with the roadblocks, I witnessed first hand a wreck coming in on the radio, Wilson telling one of the firefighters there to go to the station, and telling the other FOUR there to stay put and let some people come to the station. I've seen where the priorities come when it comes to his beloved charity, I've seen it bright and clear! Wilson could have had a total of five firefighters going to a wreck call, but instead he had himself, and told the others to wait. And what about Wilson's charities? Paying gas, water, CABLE, bills year round, years on end, for the same families? Sounds more like welfare to me! And the fire department's chaplain? Writing out checks from the firefighter's fund checkbook...just for Wilson. Seen that with my eyes too! I wonder how those guys would feel about the money that is supposed to help firefighters going to pay the bills of locals. It's disgraceful. Mark, I admire you trying to stick up for your friend...but buddy, you know this stuff is true. You and I have both been around long enough to know it is. I didn't get this old in this world being dumb, I made it this far by keeping my eyes and ears open, and paying attention to what is around me. I've got plenty more to tell, and I'd be more than happy to! I've left the city as an employee, and as a resident, I've got nothing to lose and nothing to gain from any of this. I just hate seeing people see that slouched over bag of bones as anything more than he is.

It sounds like Mayor Wilson has become very adapt at soliciting votes by handing out money to folks. If Mayor Wilson only has a ninth grade education how could he pass a test to become a first responder or EMT.
Could this guy be violating some state and federal laws functioning in his capacity as fire fighter and mayor?
Sounds like Greenbrier folks need to elect a new mayor and then they will get a new fire chief.
Billy Wilson does not want to be Mayor of Greenbrier. Billy Wilson wants to be the Fire Chief.
He ran for mayor for the purpose of becoming the Fire Chief.
S0, it is up to the citizens of Greenbrier to correct the Billy Wilson problem. Find someone willing to challenge and defeat him in the up coming election.

I am not a citizen of Greenbrier, so I have no vote, but I have driven through what seems like a 3 month road block each Christmas season. Any charity or non-profit that I have ever been associated with has the proper 501(c)3 credentials. I am unsure of exactly what charity these road-block funds actually go to, or if they have the proper 501(c)3 paperwork, but who actually oversees and distributes these funds?

There was a time, back in the 80's I believe, when you could be licensed as an emergency medical care provider without having a HS diploma or GED. Anyone who was licensed prior to the require was "grandfathered" in and will stay in good licensure standing so long as they do not let their license lapse, Wilson is among this group.

There have been many to attempt running against Wilson, but his local good ol boy politics always win. People see him in the diners, they remember him as being a youngster around town, they believe his cigarette stained smile and happily vote...regardless of what is best for this small town.

Rachel, the tax papers of his charity have been called for previously and from what I remember he had all of his tax documents in line. I also remember the question being brought up that he may not be actually associated with the USMC's Toys for Tots charity, rather he may just be "piggybacking" on their notoriety. Basically the the funds/benefits go to whoever he sees fit and whoever asks for something, they typically get it. There really isn't a selection process or a group of people who make decisions for the charity, just him.

I was not indicating that the money was not being spent properly or anything like that, just merely that it was not clear what organized charity the proceeds went to. Most truly organized charities make it clear what you are giving to and will provide receipts for tax purposes. That was all that I was saying.

I understand, I didn't think you had indicated that the money hadn't been spent properly. It's a general rule of thumb with his charity that if you ask for it...you shall get it. Gas, water, electricity, even cell phone, cable, and internet bills have all been paid for by the charity. Some recipients get bills paid for year round.

Well it seems your community is now the laughing stock of the nation thanks to Billy Wilson , your illustrious mayor. Whom it is certain they will compare not only to the Grinch for stealing Christmas but also to a communities ignorance for voting for his nonsense as it says a lot about the community which allows such idiocy to degrade services and inflate himself. Many of us who are Christians used to admire the Bible Belt for it's salt of the earth people ,however now we see only crazy tea party inbred idiots who put their citizens at risk as your mayor has done by not allowing EMT's to learn or practice proper life saving techniques....I pray your community will get back to sanity and understand the world will be the world, but the church and the mission of the church never was the world, or of politics, and to your everlasting shame you now reap what you have sown.

I'm sure you know this by now, but your devoted mayor has been arrested and charged with stealing $60,000 from the Toys for Tots program and funneling the money into his personal account.
Stealing charitable donations, it doesn't get any lower than that.

This guy should run as mayor of a Hasidic enclave; he has just the right...know-how they are looking for. Ramapo, Kiryas Joel, Lakewood, Williamsburg...these are places that could use his type of...ingenuity.

I speak from experience having lived in two of these towns...

I live just outside the city limits of Greenbrier I have all my life. My Father and I have been talking for the last feww years how strange it was that htey take up for Toys for tots every weekend for months on end. We knew there was something fishy going on there. I can't vote for the mayor of Greenbrier because of where I live but I would have voted him out a long time ago if it were up to me.
