MTA rides to games to be curbed
Fans who ride the Maryland Transit Administration's buses from local park-and-ride lots to Orioles and Ravens games will soon have to find a new way to the stadium under new federal rules restricting the types ...

Of course this will kick in now when gas prices are going thru the roof. Just another fine example of our fine tuned systems at work. Help someone else fleece a fellow American by charging more for the same short ride. But wait, will the fans drive themselves, over indulge in the alcoholic beverage of their choice, the get in their gas guzzler and drive down 295/95 etc. and hopefully not kill anyone in the process. Heaven help us all.

Didn't do well on the SAT? Go to work for the Federal Government. I think you get ten preference points on your employment application if you can prove you're a complete and total idiot.

There's an easy way to show the charter bus companies your displeasure.
Boycott the private charter busses, all of them, including the MTA commuter bus lines. |

That sucks.

with Gas prices sky rocketing just what we need FEWER options to get us places

Its just wrong to ban sporting event shuttles period. Especially in a city like Baltimore where the only local rail service is the Metro Subway from Johns Hopkins to Owings Mills and the central Light Rail from BWI/Cromwell to Hunt Valley. Unbelievable. If MTA had a metro system similar to DC it would be one thing but they dont and I doubt they ever will.

Well now... I think we can learn one thing from this... And I have a second way to save on energy and curb cost with the "MTA" IMMEADIATLY CEASE ALL MTA "MOBILITY" VANS, BUSES AND CROWN VICTORIAS AND REMOVE THEM FROM SERVICE. THESE PEOPLE ARE ABUSING THE SYSTEM, AND WE SEEM TO HAVE GOTTEN ALONG JUST FINE BEFORE AND THEY COULD AGAIN.

Perhaps some of the larger Roosts and Nest could get a bus from one of the bars where they meet and transport fans to the games for a reasonable fee. It might not be as cheap as the MTA, but it might be more comfortable.

This is a silly and ridiculous decision because it places limits on people seeking affordable public transportation downtown for games (given gas prices and parking garage prices). The timing of the decision is even more ludicrous because of the delays/repairs/inspections/ove r-crowding of light rail trains at this current point in time. Perhaps the Orioles can look at this as yet another reason fan attendance is low at games.

And yet, private firms are out there (Dillons, Veolia, etc) who provide BOTH charter service AND public transit service...AND are contracted by PUBLIC agencies to operate transit service - those who are PUBLICLY funded.

Well that just figures. Expect the gameday melee downtown to get so much worse now. Is it just me or does it seem like they WANT to make it harder for us to get downtown? And where are these extra couple of thousand people suuposed to park?
And the price to ride for the past 2 years has been $12 per person, not $10. |
