Review: Toushi Kan Judo & Karate

I attended Toushi Kan off and on from about 6th grade till about 19 years old when I went off to college. After I left I went to various other schools, Taekwondo, Shotokan, Judo, Kendo, etc. but nothing came close to Toushi Kan. Shigeki Umemoto the founder of Toushi Kan is a true Grandmaster of martial arts.
Nothing I have found compares to Toushi Kan. I will keep searching for a good dojo though. It has been 5 years since I have attended Toushi Kan and I hope to find an equally good teacher to learn from because I don't want to move back to Great Falls, Montana just to attend Toushi Kan...although the thought does cross my mind every now and then.
I wish that I would have gone to more classes. I wish that I would have worked harder when I was there. If I could do it all over again I would never leave the dojo. I don't know what you are looking for in martial arts, but if you pass up Toushi Kan you are making the biggest mistake of your martial arts training.
Remember, it's not the school, it's not the style, it's the teacher. Shigeki Umemoto is the best I have ever found. There are goods and bads in everything. Not here though. This is the best training you will find.

Misses Toushi Kan, thanks for your comments. I agree wholeheartedly. I also want to mention that Shigeki also teaches in Billings, MT (where I currently study) if this better suites your logistics.

I have been a student os Kraig Hollingsworth for 16 years and he is a student of Koncho Shigeki Umemoto. I have been very happy with the training, I just wish my instructor had more time to train.

I learned under Shigeki Umumoto in the mid 90's and unfortunately I had to leave Great Falls due to a career move. I now have a son and desperately would like to find a teacher of his caliber. I think we wer all blessed to be taught by Koncho Umemoto and will be looking for a long time to try and replace him. God bless him and his family for they have blessed many.
