New Harmony's angel

Full story: The Indianapolis Star

Sitting on a podium at the Indiana Statehouse Rotunda on Tuesday, Jane Blaffer Owen looked as if she just might blush as the governor and others talked about her.

A well deserved honor. She is a rollmodel for us all.
This article (thank-you Rob Schneider) inspires me to make a trip to historic New Harmony myself.

I feel ashamed for having never gone when it is so close. Definitely a trip to plan for later this spring or in the fall. I am glad to see awards of this kind brought back by Governor Daniels.

New Harmony is terrific, and I had a truly great meal at the Red Geranium. Many thanks and congratulations to Ms. Owen!

I guess so many "Sagamore of the Wabash" awards have been handed out that they mean nothing, so the state had to invent a new one.

Yes, New Harmony is a true Hoosier treasure. I want
to do more research on Ms. Owen. As I understand
it, she basically owns Exxon-Mobil. But I could be
wrong. Perhaps a Google might clear this up. It must
take someone with unlimited funds to be able to restore
a whole village. I am thinking also of the Rockefellers
who restored the colonial village of Williamsburg
Virginia.

its nice what the lady is doing, but does anybody really believe that the Governor is sincere about anything that concern's the citizen's of this state? all he cares about is money, i can't wait for him to be voted out of office..

One story that I have been told about Mrw. Owen is her ability to get things done. To illustrate, as the local story goes, one summer night a local teenager was working at a gas station near her estate in New Harmony and was playing the radio loudly late one evening. She called over and asked him to lower the volume. In typical teenage fashion, he ignored her request. About 30 minutes later, the owner of the gas station arrived and told his employee that the CEO of AMACO had called him and that if music wasn't turned off that the CEO was going to close the gas station. She can get things done!

While I applaud Mrs. Owen, I wonder if any non-White, non-Republican poor folks will ever receive a Sachem award.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Taurus

Someone isn't mucking about today, and if they're annoyed about something they'll come right out with it. This means you could be on the receiving end of some zingers, but equally it means that you'll be giving as good as you get. Now, although it will be very tempting to let off steam by giving someone an earful, aren't there better directions in which to channel your energy?
