I am puzzled to see that the school system has hired more mower men when it is 4 million in the red. When two men make $75,000 to mow the dead grass something is wrong here. Please tell me that this figure was a mistake.

When are they going to start putting our money toward education instead of athletics? Who keeps doing this? "Sorry Johnny! You really need to learn with the latest technology to be competitive in this century! But instead we want you to play a sport on one of our athletic fields, freshly mowed by our experts!"

Mabe is the brainchild behind the tournaments that loses money for the schools and touts the revenue being brought in to the county. The numbers are no where near realistic. The Chamber is off base on their numbers-remember the Chamber of Commerce is paid to promote not accounting. Board member Chad Williams is the King of compromising what he knows is right.

How can our school system continue to provide a good education to our children when the education dollars are so limited?

We have a screwed up society where we prioritize the wrong stuff. The elected officials dont benefit by putting more money into education so it wont happen. Nothing is done anymore for the general public good..its all done for someone's benefit or not at all. Sorry to sound so pessimistic but its the truth.

Is this same mower men that are mowing at Boone? Has anyone looked at the condition of the school grounds? Is sitting on the mower talking on the cell phones part of the job? It is no wonder that the sidewalks are breaking with people pulling their vehicles onto them. People have been racing around the parking lot like kids. The problems is, they are not kids. If you don't believe me, go to the school and watch. Also, it's nice that Wash. county facilities are being used as a private playgound for some. Like gym use when certain people have their own keys. I think this is misappropriation of government funds. There might be video available.

And the article in the paper announcing cuts to education didn't even mention cutting the mowermen. PRIORITIES?

. I have heard that the house on the Boone grounds is their playhouse when they are not mowing the ball field. I am a recent graduate of Boone and have decided that mowing jobs are looking better than college. Where do I apply?

$75k each? That's almost double what a teacher makes in a year, even with a Master's Degree! I guarantee that if someone investigated they would find that these mowermen are kin to someone in the Central Office. Washington County BOE is one of the most corrupt institutions in existence in this area. What the people of Washington County need to do is insist on cleaning house! If they would cut all of the fat in the Central Ofice, they could pay off a huge chunk of that 4 million dollar debt! However, if that happened, it would make for some very tense family gatherings! LOL!

I wonder what would happen if this stuff going on in the school system was being watched and filmed. Then the tape was sent to the Justice Dept. in Washington. There might be some people going to jail.

What is your deal? Are you a liar, cannot read? or not able to recognize numbers. All salaries are matter of public record. All 3 positions suggested in JC Press totaled $78,000. Please people before you believe Sh*t for brains people call your board members and elected officials.

How are they corrupt? Mower men no"kin" as you say to someone in central office. By the way you IT IS A $4 MILLION DOLLAR SHORTFALL NOT DEBT. People call or go by and get a copy of the budget before listening to an misinformed idiot.

The JC Press reported 2 mower men totaled $75,000. That's $37,500 for each including salary and insurance. Pretty good money considering a teacher in this school system starts out at $32,200! The point you don't seem to get is this athletics first, education second mentality is ruining this school system!!!!

I cannot believe this. It is an injustice to the taxpayers in this county. My children do not play sports. I read it too and now they are cutting the nurses. What about the newly hired mowing staff is that more important than nurses?

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Libra

You're in an idealistic mood today and only want to see the best in other people. This is typical Libran behaviour, because you aren't good at facing up to harsh reality at the best of times. Today, you're ready to believe that someone is a candidate for sainthood or that they're the best thing that's ever happened to you, regardless of whether it's true or not.
