WHEN will Minnesota DOT get with the program and fix the terrible geometrics on the TH 70 goat trail? How many people will die because of this neglect?

We could see the rescue vehicle lights from our house and we say the medical helicopter take off around 7 p.m. Highway 70 is a deathtrap; people speed all the time and then can barely make the sharp turns.

Correction: We "saw" the helicopter take off, not "say."

It appears that someone was driving wrecklessly and caused this accident. The Twin Cities media is reporting that someone was trying to pass in a no-passing zone and as a result, struck another car head on. If this is indeed what happened, this was totally avoidable. This area is clearly marked as no passing and is also at the top pf a hil where you cannot see if anyone is approaching or not. Now people two people are dead because someone was passing illegally at the worst possible time. Slow down people. It's not worth it.

PINE CITY - At least one person was killed in a three-vehicle, head-on crash Friday evening in southern Pine County.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports that the crash occurred about 5:45 p.m. on Minnesota Highway 70 at Glendale Road, about two miles east of Interstate 35.

According to the State Patrol, an eastbound Chevrolet pickup truck attempted to pass a Dodge Caravan at the crest of a hill in a no-passing zone. The truck hit a westbound Oldsmobile Intrigue head-on, then slid back into the eastbound lane and sideswiped the Caravan. The Caravan ended up in the ditch.

The Patrol reports a total of five people were in the three vehicles, but has not yet released their names or conditions. That information is due to be released Saturday evening.

No highway improvements will fix dumb!

Maybe the driver won't do it again, someone else will however. They never learn!

Agreed! There is nothing wrong with the road. The lines are clearly marked and everyone (most everyone) knows that you don't pass in a no-passing zone, at the crest of a hill where you cannot see what is on the other side. That is a recipe for disaster which is exactly what happened. The poor people in the Oldsmobile and Caravan were sitting ducks.

PINE CITY, Minn.(WCCO) ―
Investigations continue into the Pine County crash that killed at least one person Friday night.

Michael Allen Moris, 50, of Pine City, died Friday night from injuries sustained in the accident.

According to the incident report, the crash was caused when a car, heading eastbound, passed another car in a no passing zone on Highway 70 near Glendale Road. The passing car then struck a westbound vehicle head-on.

The impact from the head-on collision, sent the first car into the eastbound lane where it side swiped a third vehicle, before coming to rest in the ditch.

It's unclear what vehicle Moris was traveling in at this time.

The crash happened just before 6 p.m. on Friday south of Pine City.

The Pine County Sheriff's Office is also investigating

Update (see below). It appears a man (name released) and a woman were both killed when struck head-on by a 1995 Chevy Suburban that was passing illegally at the crest of a hill in a no passing zone. It appears that the driver that caused the crash survived as did the occupants of the minivan that he ran off the road. One wreckless and selfish driver, 2 cars struck, 2 people dead and many families impacted. What a waste.

PINE CITY, Minn.-- The State Patrol says a man and a woman were killed in a head-on crash after a driver tried to pass another car at the crest of a hill in a no-passing zone.

Capt. Matt Langer says around 5:45 p.m. Friday, a Chevy Suburban tried to pass a minivan on Highway 70 about 5 miles south of Pine City.

The 1995 Chevy truck then hit a 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue head-on before spinning back into the van it tried to pass. That van, a 1999 Dodge Caravan, ended up in the ditch.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office says 50-year-old Michael Allen Moris of Pine City was one of the people killed. He was pronounced dead about 2 hours after the crash. The name of the woman who died has not been released.

Langer says both Moris and the woman were in the same car. He expects to release more details about the crash sometime on Saturday afternoon.

I was afraid of that. When will they ever learn? Of course, the drunk survives and the innocent are killed and their families and friends left to suffer.

My sincere condolences to you and the family. I drive that road a lot and am always fearful of some fool coming over and taking me out. When it's 2 lanes, you've got no where to go. When I heard about the crash last night and then googled the location, I thought "don't tell me some idiot tried passing on that blind hill". Today on my way home, I went pass the site which was exactly where I thought it was. You must be drunk, stupid or both to even attempt such a stunt. Unfortunately, it looks like your dear friends came in deadly contact with such a character. Again, my condolences.

Maybe only allow drunks to drive the smallest cars made.

Maybe they wouldn't survive then.
