As an employee of the Oklahoma DOC, it is shocking that more people are not injured. It is sad to say that even with the money appropriated for this agency, it is a broke agency. I do not work in the prisons themselves, but with offenders in the community. Many officers I work with did not even get supplied bullet proof vests to go into the field until nearly 2 years after being hired. How long is it going to be before a probation and parole officer is injured or killed? Is that what it will take to get the attention of DOC to start spending their money properly? I have seen money wasted so badly...I wish news 9 would investigate and get access to where every penny is spent. I think you will be surprised, and realize that maybe the agency is not completely underfunded, but just managed innappropriately. With the criminal justice system shifting to community corrections (supervising offenders in the community) rather than sending people to prison, the funding is NOT making it to the community corrections employees where it needs to supply necessary equipment such as bullet proof vests, operative vehicles (and respectable appearing vehicles), updated computers, etc. If money was managed appropriately, they might even have enough left over to actually give employees raises regularly! But that is the last thing they want to do...

it seems that no one thinks about prisons and the goings on until its too late..its just forgotten what goes on inside the prison walls.we are very under staffed due to small wages and the risk factor. look at what a state trooper gets paid compaired to that of a state correctional officer..we need help before it gets realy bad...

this will be a problem from now on. the problem lies with the state officials. first, prisons use to be self supportive raising their own beef, pork,etc.. when the state stepped in and took over the prisons, that is where the problems started. quit spoilin the prisnors. rember the CHAIN GANGS? make them work 12 hours a day at HARD labor and they would be to tired to fight. take away their colored cable tv. make them provide their own insurance like we have to do. make them pay, or work for their care while in d.o.c. custody. you don't like this GET THE HELL OUT OF D.O.C. AND BE PRODUCTFUL LAW ABIDING PEOPLE!!!! take away their rights and see how many inmates leave D.O.C and never come back. quit paying the fat jacks to set up in their air conditioned office makeing up stupid shit that will never work in the real world. put them inside the walls before they can stand up and say "that will work" they never lived on the inside putting up with crap that the officers put up with. officers put their lives on the line EVERY TIME they put on their uniform. it's bad when inmates have it better than the people watching them. take away the pay raises that the people in the capital recieved and give it to the real workers!!! the ones that lay their life on the line EVERY DAY. going to work not knowing if they will make it home alive. you can't fix the problems untill we put our foot down and don't take the WE CAN'T AFFORD TO GIVE YOU A RAISE shit anymore!!!! my heart goes out to all the families of D.O.C employee's because i was there when SGT. GAMBLE gave his life for his officers. i can give you every detail of that incident and will carry that memory to my grave!!!

I agree strongly with Mr. Rogers on this subject. I work in the court system and I see District Attorneys in many counties on a daily bases incarcerate individuals for non-violent crimes. I do believe they should be punished however when an individual is sentenced to two hundred years in prison for drugs (true case) and another is sentenced for 15 years for murder I believe it is clear our legislators need to reevaulate the circumstances in each case instead of stamping prison on each file.

I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT I HAVE AN AMERICAN INDIAN SON HOUSED THERE. I'AM VERY GLAD HE WAS NOT INJURED. I FEEL FOR THE OTHER FAMILIES. BUT ON THE OTHER HAND, I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THE GUARDS TREAT YOU LIKE [WAWA]. SO ON BEHALF OF THE INIANS, BROTHERS STICK TOGETHER, AND DON'T TRUST NO ONE OTHER THAN YOUR OWN KIND. I WILL BE GETTING WITH [AIM],TO LET THEM KNOW THE HAPPENINGS THAT OUR PEOPLE HAVE TO GO THUR. SO ALWAYS PRAY TO THE SPIRITS WHEN THINGS GET TOUGH.

In any prisons inmates will have problems with the guards.Prison guards[most] act as if they are better than others.Inmates need to all stand together whites blacks mexicans indians all need to stand up against the crooked no good guards.Teach them what a beating is instead of beating on one another.

Tammy you seem a little biased. Maybe your an ex con or a relative of one. Obviously you have a pea sized brain bouncing around in your coconut. Maybe one of those "guards" needed to bounce your coconut around a little when you were in the big house.

i am a former inmate and did 6 1/2 years at lawton (stabbin hut) and seen death occur. these things happened because the staff couldnt supervise everything.. just this week another beatin death was reported inside the prison and this will always go on in this type of environment.... alot of prison politics... the IBH are the most ruthless in the system, they are responsible for much of the violent acts, and stabbin deaths throughout the prisons in oklahoma..

lawton i would be carefull, im a former prisonermy self, but alot of people on here seem to think we as excons deserve to be beaten and killed becuase its their opinion that we are less than human, if you want examples, try reading prison mellee or something of the sort, anyway only reason i started blogging on here is cause my baby brother was at granite and prison would not tellme shit anyway best of luck bud and its underfunding that is problem, the politicians need to spend a week as a guard and they will never undercut prison budget again

My son is in Granite, I give all my respect to the officers, each and every one of them. They are under pay and over work.
My son made a mistake, he can not take that back now, but he has learn his lesson and being there has not been peaches and cream. He has to fight every day just to be able to eat his meals or go out in yard. Bigger inmates are always picking on smaller younger kids.
Again, I give alot of respect to the Guards.

I worked in the prison system-
With medium and max in an open unit (pod)
And I must say from what I have seen within the administration itself-the monies are going to the right places-Until it hits the actual prison
Then it disapears within the wardons and admin its self-- read up on this its documented-Do u have any idea how many Upper staff employees are quitely moved to another location/state due to misappropriating funds/or drugs/or contraband issues-?
U dont think they relocate just fo fun do u-?

I agree, I happen to know that the guards have a lot of anger issues and they do take it out on the inmates. They beat them up, talk down to them, write them up for stupid stuff and the female guards in my opinion have NO BUSINESS working in an all MALE prison. They talk really nasty to those guys........ Also, I know that there is a lot of corruption in the prisons. The guards smuggle in cell phones, drugs, tobacco and sell it at a very high price to the inmates who in turn run game within. I vote for an overall INVESTIGATION from the top down! SHAME on the guards for that and if they can't act any better than the inmates, then GET OUT!!

Inmates have a better life than some working citizens on the street. I spent 5 1/2 yrs at DCCC gladiater school. you don't like prison or the conditions Don't go back time after time. Families whine and cry but most are listening to the inmate they are visiting .

and IBH is the brotherhood. white gang, it's ruthless but it's mainly where the white boys go to be something in there own mind. Hell ask Von Toth what they did for him. He has thrown his life down the shitter for them.
