I couldn't get through this article without being sickened. If she and her family would own up to her crimes, I might have had some compassion...Instead, it's poor me...I feel bad...(mostly because I've been caught). It wasn't anyone else who came here illegally, stole someone's identity, and continued to break the laws of the United States....Own up to your mistakes, ask your God for forgiveness, and please go back to Guatamala and stay there!

Let's see.... come to the U.S. illegally, milk the system, send all your money back, don't file income taxes, kill somebody and then leave... yup, pretty much sums it up.

Why should I feel sorry for this illegal alien that broke every law she encountered. She crossed into Mexico illegally, then into the United States illegally. She then steals someone else's identity so she can work illegally. She has been driving illegally for years without a drivers license or insurance. There are most likely many other laws she has broken in order to maintain here illegal identity. Now she has killed. I have no sympathy for her. She chose to do everything illegally. She chose to be a criminal. Now she will have to pay the price.
Why does the Pioneer Press write this sympathy story for an illegal alien? What if the same actions were committed by a rich white man. A rich white man in an expensive car like an Escalade or a Cadillac Seville. If such a person sped through a stop sign went airborne due to excessive speed, crashed into a school bus full of children and killed four of them do you think we would see a sob piece about the trials and tribulations of that mans life? Hell no. The Pioneer Press would be leading the lynching. Even if the rich white guy had started out dirt poor and worked hard though out his life to become wealthy the Pioneer Press would not look at him with sympathy. See stories on former South Dakota Governor William Janklow who drove his Cadillac Seville through an intersection at a high rate of speed and killed a motorcyclist as proof (I didn't cry for him either, he should have spent more time in jail). So the Liberals cry for this poor little illegal alien girl from an impoverished country. Boo Hoo. When was the last time the Pioneer Press reported someones Christian faith in a positive light? Quoted a persons faith in God as a reason for forgiveness. Among Liberals the Christian faith is ridiculed, demeaned and blamed for all sorts of evils. I should know. I am a Christian and I hear the things Liberals say about Christians. Canadian Liberals are treating Christian teachings as hate crimes. This girl's so-called Christianity didn't seem to deter her from being a criminal. Many millions of poor Christian's the world over manage to live, survive and even obtain wealth without being criminals. Some do so while their oppressive Governments try to hunt down and kill Christians. I know the next words out of your Liberal mouths. "If your such a Christian then why don't you feel any sympathy for her? What kind of Christian are you?" I'm one that believes in the rule of law. The laws of God and the laws of man. Both sets of laws make it very clear there are repercussions for breaking the laws. God's law more than man's laws says you are to be held responsible for your actions. Under Liberal laws, responsibility is thrown away unless there is a convenient scape goat. No, I do not have sympathy for her. She chose to do everything illegally and now she has killed four innocent children. I do not cry for her. I say send her to jail, then send her back to her country. All of you need to go live and experience abject proverty before you judge anyone. She came her to help her family. You would do the same thing if you were in her situation. Instead, you have luxury of slam drunking twinkies in the comfort of your home while you judge someone who knows more about poverty, pain, and sacrifice then any of you could possibly fathom.
This women isn't a monster. Any one of you could have been behind the wheel of that minivan. We all make mistakes on the road. The courts will administer justice. Let them do their job. The worst punishment for her is knowing that her actions killed four innocent children. |

There's about 85 paragraphs in this story and 3 refer to the real victims-THE FOUR DEAD CHILDREN!
Where's the sympathy for them and their families? There's all sorts of sympathy for someone who came here illegally, lied about her identity after killing the children and won't accept responsibilty for causing the accident even though multiple witnesses say she hit the bus. What's wrong with this picture? This article is a piece of garbage written by someone with a pro-illegal immigration agenda. Shame on you, Pioneer Press! |

While I can empathize with the poverty they have, it still does not give them the "right" to come here, milk public assistance, assume false identities, drive without licenses, etc. Do we need to reform our immigration policy? YES.
I agree with T from Mpls....the bias is way over the top. |

I think the PPP is trying to show you there is a flip side and that she isn't a monster but desperate to help her parents escape a gruelling life. We don't care, I work in a hospital and watched a woman die over a period of days awhile back and all her 6 30- 50ish year old kids were too busy buying groceries and planning golf outings to sit by her as she died. They were also professed christians. We ARE spoiled and selfish here.
If this young woman from Guatemala were a white girl college student from New Ulm we'd all be sorry for her, too.You hate her because she needed a way to care for her family and chose crossing the borders to do it. We just stick ours in homes and walk away. The government subsidizes that, you know. When our economy tanks and we're all flat broke and fighting for radishes, I hope you remember this as you're packed in the back of a truck heading for Canada and they find you and they turn you back. |

This is a sorry attempt at changing the perception of illegals in minnesota. if anything it reinforces the stereotypes that go with being an immigrant. I think writing this story will do more harm that it will do good.
And on the last note, MAYBE, just MAYBE, I would have had a little sympathy had she actually owned up to her crime and apologized and admitted she was in the wrong, but instead she chose to lie about the incident, cause more harm to those all ready devestated. Very shameful, and as a white male liberal, I must say, I don't agree with this article at all... |
|
|
Every story has a another side and this is a well written on that does just that. In our disagreements with all that has happened, what are each of you doing as Christians to rectify injustices. That is the real crime.
|
|
This person is why we DO NOT want a liberal in the White House and why we need to get all of them out of every elected office starting in November. I'll bet your attitude would be different if it was your kids in that bus. |
|
|
Are we supposed top feel sorry for her? The pioneer press would think so. She needs to be executed and her family sent back to Guatemala ..
End of story!! |

Who are these people that write articles like this? They propagandize us on the grand kumbaya of the open border and then utterly bypass the consequences. Building out the nation's peasant class has very negative consequences. In this huge article, I can't find anything about this illegal skipping auto insurance (that's another crime) or health insurance. So, just more for everyone else to pay for. Our future depends on importing poor unskilled people? No, our future is THREATENED by importing poor unskilled people.

If my children were the victims of this accident, I might be angry because she made bad judgements, but I wouldn't hate her for her immigration status.Should I hate her less if she's a white suburban college girl if she has an accident that results in the death of my kid? Christians can't even seem to be equal opportunity haters! It was an accident. She didn't go out planning to murder people.

Why don't the people, Patrick Hentry and MHB, who feel sorry for her spend a day in the life of the parents of the dead children. She should suffer the same fate. At least she is a alive. She was illegal and should not be in our country. Nuff said.
Shame on the Pioneer Press for trying to give us some BS sob story. And shame on the some of the public for falling for it. |
|

Wilgeno and "T from Mpls" said it well.'Patrick Henry'...Canada would turn the person back because they do enforce their immigration laws. Yes, there's a very small portion of me that emphathizes with this woman because of the dead children. But, that is irrelevant to the point that she is willfully here illegaly and probably not contributing to the tax base. Since she's also uninsured, then the families (and their insurance company) of the dead and injured children are probably experiencing a greater financial impact because all of the money has to come from the company they've paid premiums. Where's Pioneer Press's story about how illegal immigrants are driving up our insurance premiums more than they need to, about how they are draining the budgets of our school systems? Bunch of liberal weenies. Yes, I said it. Weenies.

If you want to get an example of some of the suffering that this woman has caused, please log on to www.caringbridge.org and enter sawyerstevens or derekvarpness. And this is only a small part of the reallity of this " accident ".

Who's saying we should "hate" her? The idea isn't to hate, it's to hold accountable and then to smarten about the open border disaster. It's also to understand how papers like this continually whitewash this issue. |
|

Meanness in the guise of moral righteousness is still meanness. Are sympathy and empathy like a bag full of pennies: if you take some out for someone it leaves less for others? I can feel horrible for both sides in this, and I can also feel anger toward a government that has neither a viable health care or immigration policy.
What is sad is that this very well written and researched story is attacked by the very people it was meant to educate. And all it did was make them meaner. Ick. |
|
|
I have a hard time being empathetic toward this woman.
I am not against imigration...my grandparents came from Europe. I am against ILLEGAL imigration. What part of illegal don't these people understand?? Illegal is illegal. Running a stop sign or stealing is illegal. Sneaking into this country is illegal. Because someone is poor or want a better life is not an excuse. If it were, I'd be robbing a bank using the excuse that my family needed it. I think the focus in all of this should be on the families who were impacted by this accident, not by the sad sob story of someone who broke the law. Throw the book at her, send her home and use her as an example to others like her. Go home, we don't want you here!! |
|
Educate, really? Try persuade. And when you complain about healthcare, remember the border. More peasants, more people that can't afford healthcare. Pretty simple. |
