I couldn't get the article from this site to open but, I have been following the story & there is a detailed story on the following site:
http://www.idahopress.com/articles/2006/06/04... My heart goes out to Scott in regards to what he had to experience. Wolves are an unecessary evil & I strongly disagree with the way they were introduced into Idaho or even other states for that matter. Having a dog is like having a child. You raise them and grow to love them in every way possible. It is ridiculous that a person can't do anything to protect his/her pets from wolves "unless they are on private land". |

That is a rediculous statement! Those dogs had no choice, they were taken out there and what is "disrespecting with nature"? If no one can understand you, do not put in any input at all. On the other hand I dont feel wolves are evil. They should not have been brought back now we have to deal with the impact it is making on the population of other animals which are an integral part of these regions. Maybe wolves are "disrespecting with nature"? I dont know but that just sounds hilarious sorry to make fun of your sacred mumbo jumbo but I love nature and the wild just as much as you believe it or not! Power to CHOM! Go CHOM!

Its not the dogs falt they are just doing what they are trained to do. I have had the same thing happen to our bear hunting group in WI. The wolfs are just a big big problem to the US. ALL WOLVES SHOULD BE TAKEN OUT OF THE US

"Cole, and Kill the wolves" I can't believe that just because you don't like wolves or disagree with them being re-introduced you say "they all should be killed or taken out of the US". Dogs (pitbulls, rottwilers) are very dangous, and have attacked people. Look at what Mike Vick did with his dogs, maybe dogs should all be taken out of the US. Maybe anyone named Mike should be taken out of the US. Theres a place for all of us, and all the animals, it's natures way of dealing with things. When I go into the woods I take precautions, and so should everyone. The wolves, bears, cougars and all wild animals will attack if you are in there area.

Wolves were here long before people moved west. If any creature doesn't belong it is the hunting dogs YOU put in danger. After all it is the wild (wolf) instinct in the dogs that you are exploiting. It is definately tragic that these dogs were killed, however, the wolves did not come to your home to kill your dogs...the dogs would still be alive if they had been left at home.

CHOM & Patriot60, you are both insensitive idiots. Please don't breed as the world does not need more people like you.
As a dog owner, I'm heartbroken to hear of such horrific canine deaths (though it should be irrelevant, my dog does not hunt). As an ID resident, I'm infuriated that the will of nonresidents was forced upon us via wolf reintroduction. Wolves are prolific in North America and their situation does not warrant protection or restorative efforts. Canada and the upper US mid-west are full of wolves. Thankfully, Idaho is finally going to get the authority to manage its wolf population. Lets hope the local government has the sense to tell California and the Eastern US to kiss our...well you get idea & lower the wolf population to reasonable levels (unfortunately an official population target of zero is blocked by the feds...but we can hope). |

1 Mayer, you're in Jerome, Idaho? When was the last time you saw a real wolf in nature? When was the last time you talked, in person, to someone who lost an animal to wolves that was confirmed by F&G? You don't have wolves in Jerome, Idaho. I live in the Clearwater National Forest and there ARE wolves here, along with a lot of elk, deer, range cattle, and my dogs. The wolves have caused NO problems even when they've run across the trail in front of us. I did lose my pet turkey and a number of chickens to a mountain lion and a bear tried to break into the chicken coop. Mayer, you're listening to rabid anti-wolfer's lies without any actual knowledge or experience of your own, which is typical of any anti-wolfer. |

1 Right on, Lapwai, Idaho. Saw a documentary on t.v. last night that said approximately six people are killed each year by bears in Alaska. How many people are killed by wolves each year in Idaho? For all the mouths going against wolves, you'd think each one of them had horrible personal experiences with wolves. But none of them have any experiences at all, they just believe and choose to spread the hype. The only ones who have the right to judge wolves are the ranchers who actually have had losses that were confirmed by Fish and Game as actual wolf kills. Everyone else is jumping on a bandwagon for something to hate. If all the people who hate wolves could say that they actually had a bad personal experience with wolves, there wouldn't be much speaking about it, would there! |

Apparently, you didn't comprehend what you read in my post. If considering the death of the dogs a tragity makes me insensitive, as opposed to wishing for the death of an entire species, I don't know what to tell you. Actually, I do, and may in another post. |

1 I am not against wolves and would be supportive of perpetuating the recovery of the native timber wolf that we originally had in Idaho. I know its hard for people like you to look at this illegal gray wolf introduction objectively, but it is a much larger hybrid Canadian wolf breed that should never been introduced into idaho. These facts are indisputable and are available on our www.saveourelk.com website. By the way, I am an Idaho native born and raised here and have hunted and enjoyed what Idaho outdoors has to offer, I have seen several wolves in the wilderness and have had seen the devestation that they inflict on our Idaho ungulate - you have no idea how bad it really is I can lead you right to areas where they are crawling like ants just outside of stanley - by the way from where do you come from? You obviously are a transplant into idaho and believe you can come to our state and force your views on the rest of us Idaho Citizens. |

Gee, you started out sounding so reasonable I actually felt encouraged. It's too bad you chose to end your post on such a sour note. Anyway, I was curious as to where we would find native Northern Rockies timber wolves with which to start a repopulation effort. Do you know of a native northern rockies timber wolf population that exists? I was under the impression that they were wiped out about 50 years ago. |

Hmmm...interesting. Why do you suppose this report was not the final determinate factor in the decision? |

Did you and your other timber wolf sighters take photographs and submit them to the USF&WS? If so, why didn't they list those wolves as endangered, and take steps to save THEM?

its not the dogs or the wolfs to blaim its MAN the wolfs are surviving. the dogs are doing what man tells them to do.the dog will run till they drop from exaustion, or die doig so .man sit in his truck and wates the dogs will sit in the wilderness till man cames back for him.MAYBE man shoul run beside dog on a leash to know where his dogs are.to protect them from pretators wolf bear cougars DUH...or wild life have no place to go .we are building homes on there space.where are they supposed to go i live in lewiston in town and see deer elk mooseand coyetes in my back yard. why do you think that is?because were pushing them out of the wilderness.keep up with your dogs and you could help them its not the wolfs falt you cant keep track of your dogs.would you send your friend out with out protection?SO keep up with your dogs .maybe next time theyll live,if running beside them instead of sitting in the truck. |
