I take my kids every year to them because there are always veterans in the parade. These people have afforded us every freedom that we currently enjoy and one of the best ways we have to thank them is to give them a standing ovation as they pass by in a parade. Not a waste of time to me.

Absolutely, but I found your comment to be subjective to the point that you weren't even considering why others go to parades. Some folks want to see their kids or grandkids in the marching band, some want to see all the classic cars, others may enjoy the shriners driving their mopeds at insane speeds. Heck, some kids just go for the free candy!

Marching in those parades sucks, I was in Spring Lake's marching band and we always did our Memorial Day parade, senior year it was like 90 out and humid, not a fun time at all.

It's not the day before the parade. It's a WEEK before the parade, and it's obnoxious. Yes, it's too bad that this had to be legislated, but peoples' bad behavior had gotten out of control. And for crying out loud, greediness for massive amounts of candy is not so important that some people should allow their kids to run out in the road and risk getting squashed by a mac truck and shove and stomp all over littler kids. It's supposed to be a fun community event, not a me-me-me fest!

You are such a downer.......yes it is your opinion, but if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything.

We go and stand or walk.....nice to see the evil one put 2 cents in here and brought "Christians" into it! It is not the "Christian" aspect of "grandville people" saving spots and hogging street....they want the free candy! And they DO turn thier sprinklers on.....like driving the car they feel safe inside thier home and can be a rotten and nasty as they want.......but the next time you soak someone it may not be our family but someone who knows where you live and will return to repay your kindness!

Technically, that space of land is the cities, so they can tell you whatever they want when it comes down to it. They could let no one sit there at all, so be happy you can, whether you live in front of it or not. Actually it's called public right-of-way which means anyone is allowed to occupy teh land weather there are ropes there or not.

Yeah, it's much more fun to sit in the basement of your parent's house, mooching off them, using their computer and being a moron on the internet.

If I lived on Wislson... and somebody was putting lawn chairs and blankets out in my front yard a week before the parade... I would just consider them GIFTS and I would pick them up and bring them into the house. lol Seriously, I'm glad that they are telling people that they can't do that anymore. That was just way too crazy. I mean, the Wilson Ave residents couldn't even cut their grass a few days before the parade without having to move people's blankets and chairs. I still think the 6:00 AM rule is crazy. Why can't it just be FIRST COME... FIRST SERVED. Of course, then you'd probably have people show up the night before and sleep in somebody's grass. sigh

I live along the parade route and have in the past - and will continue in the future to throw away anyones stuff that is 'saved' in front of my house! It's not your stinking lawn any more than it is mine 33 feet or whatever it is from the stinking centerline. While I dont much care to watch the parade myself I am very much offended by all those who have staked claim to my front yard the day(s) before, often by people who do not even live in this neighborhood! It's not your property so stay the hell off it already (except the morngin of the parade)! What's worse is they trash the place, ciggy buts, water bottles, candy wrapers, totally destroyed a new tree I had planted, etc.... leaving it all for me to clean up. Feel free to use my lawn the day of but dammit clean up after yourselves will ya!!! That's all I ask, just a little friggin respect and decency. You are after all borrowing a chunk of my property for the morning, the least you could do is return it in the same condition as found.

People just got too greedy and too selfish and the homeowners on Wilson suffered. Can you imagine the mess had people started putting lawn chairs and blankets down on Monday (which is in the past when it would have started) and then we had those storms came through on Wednesday Afternoon and Evening? Good bye lawn chairs! LOL...

AMEN! BTW Kevin, it IS your lawn 33 feet from the centerline--the city simply has the right to use the property if needed for road widening, etc. It does not give some rude mornon with a blanket the right to litter your property.
