I thought the economy was turning around - I guess not!

I work in Industrial Sales and sell to everyone from Automotive to Medical. I specifically sells plastic compounds and we have seen a modest increase in Sales as of July. However, do not think that industry will just turn around and hire more employees as orders start to increase. Business will attempt to mfg. with their current employees. I would not wait for the phone to ring!! You need to hustle you arse off and seek what you can. There is no magic bullet here and don't count on the Government with their help...

Your right, I will not shop at the Office Max store after they close it! |
well it just means unemployment is going to be on a higher rise than what it is right now.....shouldnt they be doing something to employ people not disemploy them?....i dont see anything turning around....

Wow what a blow I used to work for Office Max and still know a few people that work there now what are they going to do severance pay onlt last so long with the way the economy is right now too many may not find employment right away or find employment at all

I've seen this before with CCity. I started right after the 3,400 associte layoffs and right after the 654 management layoffs. I watched them change directions every week for 2 years until they ran out of options. From what I'm reading stock wise and trend wise and with the January hiring of CCity's CFO, things arent looking to promising for OMAX. I currently work for Sears and they seem to be heading for a change in the right direction. I also used to work at OfficeMax before they dropped the selling culture from their sales floor. Not even the same vibe i got when i used to work there as i walk into a store today. No help from associates and a Copy Center struggling to prove itself for years. Limited PC products and Cameras, and poorly trained unknowledgable associates with limited product knowledge, simply hired to walk the customer to the location of their office supplies (although it more of a point and "it's over there" type of service), thus it does not surprise me that they are closing stores and call centers. stocks are down and the trend is bad. Sell stocks and look for work before the inevitable happens.

Well this is just a start.....1st the call centers next the stores
God only knows where they are moving it to......probably to bengladash or india or some other foreign country where you call for customer support and when the person on the other side answers...you need a frigin translater. people like my sister have until the 31st of october....and if they are good little employees and stick around they get a severance pay.......probably crap for sure so i've been encouraging her to come to my shop......she shouldnt have wasted her talent for as long as she did........as a matter of fact none of them for that matter who are losing thier jibs.

They moved the jobs to the Bristol, VA call center.
The closing referred to is the closing of an office max call center. So, you would be able to shop at a local office max. |
Some went to Bristol,Va. others went to Officemax's other call centers. They had to many call centers operating and closed one and moved the jobs into their other centers. |
I worked there. The other call centers started to take over shortly before we left. They had little training and made MANY MANY mistakes. All I have to say is goodluck this holiday season you are gonna need it. I give the company 1 year.
Why, because you said so? People are losing their jobs every day. Did you consider maybe they couldn't afford to keep you in this economy? Do you invest your money in Office Max? NO. Sorry, you lost your job, but quit crying and go get another one. They are probably doubling up work for a call center in a right to work state. |
I understand that it's a bad economy and I see part of your point - however "quit crying and go get another one" puh-lease, it's hard to find a job in this economy - at least one that will pay the bills. McDonald's won't keep the wolf from the door. |
Why do you think I moved to Houston? I got a job here. There was nothing in Ohio. You do what you have to do. |
I suppose, but not every can just up and move to a new state either. Sometimes we need to boycott companies to get them to rethink their practices. I don't know that the call center needed to be closed. If some of the higher up made a little less (the CEO is reported to bring almost a half a million a year) that money could maybe help pay for other expenses for the company. But corporations are always looking out for the "big wigs" not the "little guys" Sorry, I may have gotten a little off topic. |
As I said, you dow hat you have to do. Companies are in business to make money not keep employees they cannot afford. They are looking out for the bottom line, which you have no clue about since you dont own or run a business. I see you are just anothers socialist that things everybody should have the same thing. You will be crying when Obama succeeds and takes money from your pocket too to pay for people who don't work. Wake up already. Boycott companies - that's a great idea. Put the rest of their employees out of a job. Makes sense to me.....NOT. |
I understand the bottom line - but I also think there should be a way to be responsible without being greedy. Do you really think that corp executives work hard enough to make 6 figures.(different line of work but - athletes don't work hard enough for that kind of money either.) We need to pay the people who work hard what they are worth. In turn, they will spend more and help the bottom lines. In corporations around the globe execs are still getting their bonus while "average" associates are not getting annual raises. If Companies can't afford employees, maybe they should look at "the fat" and cut expenses there. I don't think everyone should have the same thing - if you work hard, you deserve more, period. BTW, I voted for McCain. |
