There recently was an article in the St. Petersburg Fl. Times. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on: "How Would You Fix the Economy?"
I think this guy nailed it!
_____

Dear Mr. President,

Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan. You can call it the "Patriotic Retirement Plan":

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new American CAR. Forty million cars ordered – Auto Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage – Housing Crisis fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members in Congress pay their taxes...

Mr. President, while you're at it, make Congress retire on Social Security and Medicare. I'll bet both programs would be fixed pronto!

LOL, Can you imagine how fast SS and Medicare would get fixed and funded if that was the only retirement program Politician's had available to them? The way it works now the get their Government pension and insurance AND SS and Medicare. They could care less what happens to either of those programs, other than the votes they generate.

Question about point 2... By "American CAR" do you mean built in America.. or just a American brand?

Point number 3 doesn't make sense. If these people simply paid off their mortgages, it wouldn't help the mortgage industry. They don't like being paid off early. That's not how they make their money.

Ok, sounds great. If you are married & working - how about 2 million a piece? I would agree to --All of the above.

Here's the problem. How do we get the 30 year old and under - to show up for work? We may have more of them -moving in w/ MOM & DAD. The country would move to a shorter work week and nothing would be open before noon.

Its to easy and it would take away the control and power that the uber-politicians want to hold onto so desperately.

But I am for it being over 50

I wouldn't go to Mexico.

Where would you move? If you had 1 million, you could stay in America, unless you got very ill and had to spend your money on hospital bills.

Sorry, Bubbly, not saying where I would move to. I would be afraid you would follow me and ruin my new life. Can't have that. Actually, under the new plan, which I did a quick run through before choir rehearsal tonight, if you don't have insurance you are going to pay a fine of 2.5% of your AGI. And anyone making 500,000 single will pay an additional tax of 5.4% on their adjusted gross income to cover me. Wonder if Pete and you and Arctic and SIB make enough to have to pay for me Bubbly??? See, you won't get to pick who you pay for, you'll pay for everyone. The 5.4% is a TAX that will be assessed whether you have health insurance or not. See, as I have been telling you, they will stick EVERYONE, not just the right. But, because I don't bow at Obama's feet you refuse to believe me. Guess that's your problem, not mine.
