I'm sorry to hear about the loss of a life. But if the vic was comming at him with something to hit him, I would have shot two or 3 times to stop the threat to me or my family. I pray the suspeect can go on with his life and I wish blessing on the victiums family.

Think about it for one minute. A guy comes at you with something in his hand. Is it a gun or a knife. There is a reason people get a CCW, it is for reasons like this.

This is a tragedy. However, I carry a permit to carry a concealed weapon as well. I would like this state to allow something instead like stun guns or tazers. I hate to think that I could be a murderer when it would be more practical to carry something that could just immobilize a person that threatened my safety as a lone gal.

The guy who got shot had convictions for dealing cocaine and burglary. He did prison time.

and he had a lengthy criminal record.

I agree, CCW's are for reasons like this. Let me answer the Headline for the family. Your loved one was trying, yet again to be a criminal, only this time, his victim was not going to be a victim. Sorry for your loss

Thanks for putting up this info. I never saw any of this before. Parts of me wants to say that he did the time for the crime and maybe he was trying to turn things around. But then parts of me says look at his past..bad man. I'd like to hear what the shootee came at the shooter w\ as a weapon before I pass judgement

So another arm chair judge and jury.. You fail to mention only 1 case was assault.15 days in jail is minor. So probably a simple fight... So he served time in prison. That means joe blow can impose and carry out a death sentence??
Street justice is street justice. Doesn't matter if it's a gang thug or a cops brother. This is why our streets are so violent. Doesn't matter if you have a permit or are some random thug with a gun.If you murder you are a murderer. Plain and simple. You take justice into your own hands, you are no different then a thug.
Personally you gun toting self righteous jerks scare me more then the thugs.

Boo friggen Hoo. I cant understand why you would not value your own life enough to defend against a threat, but, thats you not me. It does matter if he wasa random thug, or a CCW permit holder, thats where LAWS come into play. people like yourself are the problem here, no regard for LAWS.

can someone tell me what the shootee has carring for a weapon??? I realize he was no angel. I not defending him. I think that the fact that these two were not the best of friends is interesting. Maybe the shooter was carring b\c of this man. If he was, the shooter did nothing to put distance b\t him and tha "bad guy"

What has the fact that his brother was an officer to do with this. His brother didn't pull the trigger. In fact he wasn't there until called in the line of duty. The man called 911 and waited for the ambulance and police. He did not run as thugs do. He defended himself as many many others would have done in the same situation whether they were carrying a ccw or not.

Heres the State Law....
"Passed in the Senate (28 to 10) on June 6, 2006, to establish that a law-abiding person who is attacked in any place where he or she has a right to be has no duty to retreat, and can “stand his or her ground” and meet force with force, including deadly force if necessary to prevent death or great bodily harm"

I have a very hard time believing that. If that was true, he could have NEVER gotten his CCW.

No self defense in Michigan? What are you suppose to do, just let someone attack or kill you. You are very wrong.

I'm not saying either person was right or wrong, but if the shooter was anyone else (besides a family member of a cop) they'd still be sitting in a jail cell. I smell something dirty!!!!

Another reason for me to get a CCW. Typical, bringing a knife to a gun fight.
