God bless America. We can find bleeding hearts to save a tree but 50 million dead babies are in landfills and down sewage drains all across America and no one is writing in the PP to save them!

Education Minnesota has been in overdrive lately in an attempt to sway public opinion and improve their brand. Why don't they pick up the tab for it? After all, IT'S FOR THE CHILDREN! Either that or come up with a new sloagan.

Maybe Triple Tax and Fear of Freedom could get together. Build a treehouse in it and run a school and home for unwanted children.

Now you're hitting below the belt! If Education Minnesota were to step in and "bridge the gap" financially to the tune of $120,000 do you have any idea how many Tom Dooher campaign spots (disguised as Education Minesota spots) that might jeopardize? It would be devastating! Even if Education Minnesota members throughout the state were to voluntarily make up the difference out of their own pockets, the effects on the economy would be bad. Asking members to pay may cause them to stall off replacing their subarus and Hybrids for another 6 months, causing further sluggish economic recovery. And more importantly, American manufacturer's and other private sector workers are the ones paying their salaries and benefits. If they're yoo good for what we make let them "serve" somewhere else!

Cut it down, have a bonfire, hold hands and sing kumbaya. You liberal nut jobs have your priorities messed up. You have no problem implementing policies to destroy industry and send jobs overseas, but you will take it up your keister to save a tree.

The long-term odds for the oak tree's long-term survival after being moved are nil.

Move a 150 year old tree? Great tree, I'm sure, but given the age and size of the tree, seems like an effort that's over the top. If there's really much interest in this tree, cut the trunk and large branches into thin slabs to be stained and etched with the school logo, and sell the pieces to raise funds to provide expanded learning opportunities for Fairmont kids. Everybody wins - except the tree of course, whose survival after such a move is very questionable anyway.

I agree. Between the public employee unions, the teachers unions, environmental advocacy nonprofits that get government grants, and Planned Parenthood there should be enough money to save that tree. Why does the water treatment plant need to remove the tree anyway?

The City of Irvine, California (as in Sally Irvine Ordway) spend $25,000 each to move about 10 oaks in the way of a City project. It was about 15 years ago.
Of course in New England the Oak would have right of way and the treatment plant be damned.

All of you are missing the point here. Is it because you can't see the forest through the trees? We are talking about a tree that was here long before any of us were. What next, drain the lakes???!!!!! We humans really know how to take all we can and waste all we want, in the name of progress. How difficult would it be to incorperate the tree within the treatment plant? If we can't see the importance of saving trees how can we ever hope to save humanity?

It's funny....many people had the idea to cut it up and make plaques or memorials or whatever...Any of you actually do something? The wood is just sitting there. Talk is often cheap but on the internet, it approaches fire sale prices.
